Sunset Café Grand Baie — Restaurant in Isle Mauritius

Not the best experience. Got a seat quickly overlooking the bay so it was a really nice spot. Order taken fairly promptly. Drinks arrived soon after. All good so far.

But the food was average at best. My wife had spaghetti bolognese, and the left over was just a plate of grease. Mine was the croque poulet with plastic cheese. It wasn't terrible but was definitely 'passable'. It came with nice chips and some salad thrown in for show.

I did ask for another drink but it never arrived. Staff never checked if we were happy or the food was ok. The bill/check took time to to come and only by standing up and looking like I was going to walk out did it prompt them into getting it over to me.

I've been here twice now, and everything is just mid. The prices, the food, nothing in particular stands out aside from it'll have a nice view of grand Baie and it captures a lot of tourists as the ile aux Gabriel tours start from the dock close by.

Nothing is bad though, either! I've never had a problem with my bill and the service has always been kind and quick, though not exceptionally personal. With a solid happy hour id be there often!

If you're on the island for a while and looking for a place for sundowners while you're there, check it out! But if you're on vacation there are better places to...

2022 Lovely location, good service, food good and reasonably priced for such a prime location

2024 Revisited 2 years later. Still good, but an error on the menu pricing left a bad impression. Only disclosed when the bill was queried.

The pricing on the Sunset and Tropical Breakfasts were reversed. The Tropical is still good value for money, but one can only wonder if there are other suprise errors.
