The rooms and view are seriously SO NICE. The place is stunning...but it doesn't outweigh the negatives of this trip for us. I will start with the positives then get into our major disappointments.
As I said, the views and rooms are perfect. The house keeping staff is INCREDIBLE. I've never had a room cleaned up so nicely on a vacation before. The food, although DISGUSTINGLY overpriced, was very good. I had a good steak, which I felt was still severely overpriced, at the pool bar restaurant. I had some delicious and fairly priced lasagna at the other poolside restaurant with incredibly overpriced wine. The service during both of those meals was IMMACULATE. Top notch service, the wait staff is the BEST part of this resort, I kid you not. Wonderful humans who love their jobs, I pray they are compensated well by Hilton for the ridiculous prices they charge for EVERYTHING.
Now onto the negatives:
There are very little food options at all, but breakfast specifically. $40 a person? I struggle to eat $25 worth of food by myself, $40 for breakfast is actually demented. The lack of other options is also astounding and baffling. We messed up and did not exchange any money for pesos as it's never been an issue before...but both coffee shops at this resort require pesos or room charge. If you would like to be able to charge to your room, you must also put a $2000 hold on the card you use, which can change the course of your trip if you didn't bring along an extra 2 grand, therefore we chose not to do so. Finding food was a hassle I prefer not to deal with on vacation, especially as a small person who deals with low blood sugar and eats every few hours. Also, $170/pp/pd for all inclusive is ridiculous. Especially for someone who wouldn't be drinking any alcohol. There should be package options that consider how much any given person eats and drinks in a day. We aren't all "1 size fits all" type of people.
Now for the biggest issue we experienced that the hotel could not give us any answer for...
When we checked in for our stay (purchase with points through Hilton Grand Vacations) the girl told us check out was May 3rd. I said no no...it is supposed to be May 4th, saturday. She says "no no...Friday May 3rd" so we were confused but assumed we got ripped off and weren't surprised bc we felt like we were being jerked around through the entire booking process. So we book another place to stay the night of May 3rd as our flights back to the states we're booked for May 4th. We go to check out on May 3rd after packing our things and waiting until the last minute to check out (knowing we can't get in our next room at the other place until 3 or 4), and the gentleman tells us our check out isn't until May 4th...LIKE I SAID TO THE GIRL WHO CHECKED US IN. So we essentially wasted HALF OF OUR LAST DAY IN CABO AND $400 BOOKING ANOTHER ROOM FOR NO FKN REASON and the hotel couldn't compensate us or do ANYTHING at all bc we booked through Hilton grand vacations not directly through the hotel. DESPITE THE HOTEL EMPLOYEE ARGUING WITH ME INSTEAD OF DOING HER JOB WHEN WE CHECKED IN. Thanks Hilton, I'll be calling the number the hotel gave me and I'll be making a review video on tik tok as well. Stay...
Read moreThe grounds are beautiful and well kept. Everyone was very friendly and helpful upon arrival and throughout our stay. The complimentary margarita at the front desk really hit the spot. Our room is 4021 and we had breathtaking views of the ocean and sunrise. We literally fell sleep to the sounds of the ocean every night.
Our first meal was at Sotol (they don't take res but on a Thursday in May, there was plenty of seating). We ordered some cocktails and ceviche. Both very good. The pork torta and 3 kinds of fish tacos we had for our meal were great as well. The pickled onion on the side was so good!
We rented a cabana on the beach ($90). The concierge was very helpful in helping us change our cabana choice from poolside to beach. Beach cabana was much more secluded. She was actually able to show us a map which was really nice so we could see where we wanted to rent. Since it was the day before, there was only one left but it was perfect. The cabanas poolside ($65) are nice as well. We did rent one on anther day because we had heard a very large group was arriving for a conference. To be noted, when renting a poolside cabana, you also get the two lounge chairs in pool/umbrella in front of your cabana. The Cliffside cabanas are really meant for larger than a group of 2 (in my opinion) and I believe they are closer to $200. While in the beach cabana, we ordered from Lena Grill. Our server checked on us often without being intrusive. The Al Pastor pizza was a pizza I had never eaten and it was delicious! The beef quesadillas were good too and come with a side of black bean puree which made them even better! Dinner at Talavera was a treat! Amazing service, beautiful setting looking over the beach and infinity pool. The food is plated like pieces of art. Highly recommend the sea bass.
Some other notes, as others have said, there isn't much nightlife after dinner. That was fine with us as we came back to our room for drinks. You can purchase beverages and other snacks in their little store called Dulce (much cheaper than poolside). The fitness center is fantastic! State of the art equipment and plenty of it all while over looking the ocean. Staff kept it very clean. They offer water, towels and cool towel for after your workout. We headed into Cabo for one day. We chose uber which was around $25 for the 25 min car ride. Uber is not allowed inside the gated property but it was a short 2 min walk to the gate and upon return, the guard did let Uber in to drop us at entrance. In Cabo, you must do the $36 massage at The Sand Bar. Spent the rest of the day walking along the beach and stopping at random places for a drink and appetizer. Perfect Day! Another cool place we stumbled upon was Tabascos, 2×1 happy hour drinks all day, including a yummy mudslide and fantastic pizza, believe it or not! Super cheap too! We will definitely return to...
Read moreI had a pretty bad time at this hotel. When it comes down to it, it's just an expensive place where they try to gouge you for money at every turn and don't match the service provided to the price charged. I live in new york city, one of the more expensive places to live, and the food and beverages at this hotel were comparable to the prices I would pay in the tourist areas of NYC. Cocktails were $18 each. The average meal for one at Lena with an appetizer will run you $70. The average entre is $35, the average glass of wine is $16 and the average appetizer is $25. There is also a breakfast buffet (the only option to eat for breakfast on the property) for $36 per person. There is one restaurant I did not go to, but it was more expensive than Lena and I was already dissatisfied with the overpriced meal I already had. In addition to the stiff prices, the food is only ok. Lastly, expect to pay tax and a 15% service charge for everything. This is not mentioned anywhere on the menus or on the app but it is tacked on to everything. The hotel keeps the service charge and does not use it as tips for the servers. They want customers to tip the servers even though they charge a service fee.
The Spa: the spa is lovely. the decor is nice, it has beautiful calming scents throughout. they have a steam room and a jacuzzi that you can only utilize if you are receiving treatment at the spa. I got a facial for $160 and a 50-minute massage for $165. to the services rendered, they added a $48 service charge and tax, bringing the total to $425. The problem with this price tag? the services were subpar. The facial used no steam, there were no extractions and, when I left, my face felt dry. ???? after a facial! The massage was ok. However, in the beginning, I outlined on a piece of paper the areas that I did not want to be massaged. The request was completely ignored.
The grounds at the hotel are well-maintained and beautiful. The rooms are also very comfortable. Mine had a beautiful view of the ocean.
Be prepared to pay $90 if you want a chair by the pool in a desirable spot. There are other chairs available in the more obscure places around the pool for free.
There are no activities for adults that are free. Not even a morning workout at the gym. I felt completely taken advantage of, and the worst part is that I am an hilton grand vacations club member. If this is how they treat their members, watch out for everyone else. The room and the grounds was the only upside...
