My son and I stayed for a week in the room Las Garzas. We were told although the room was downstairs and rather dark, it was quieter than the other rooms. It was charming with one wall of the room showing remnants of the old bakery, talavera tiled shower and scrupulously clean. The entire hotel was extremely clean. The continental breakfast is just okay with very nice fresh fruit and some bread, but there's a menu to order from with heavier fare for under $4 and well worth it. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a loud bar across the street but they tend to close things down about midnight, but still earplugs might be a good idea for sleeping. The city tends to be loud everywhere, but the last night was especially tough with a drunk party next door screeching and cackling until 5 AM. The young man on night duty was apologetic and had asked them to quiet down, so lesson learned, bring earplugs.||||A tip on some great street food - walking east on Calle Galarza, turn right at the corner past the Templo de San Roque. The ladies there make tlacoyos, a masa based food with beans and cheese, and then they slice them open and add the filling of your choice. They're...
Read moreThis hotel is truly one in a million. I have never encountered a more accommodating and kind staff at any hotel. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. The rooms were exceptional! We split our time between two rooms due to availability and they were both splendid. The tortulas room has a small balcony that has a spectacular view of the city and AC. That room would be absolutely 100% perfect but it has queen sized bed makes it hard for two people to sleep comfortably. We moved to the Cordonices and that room was also amazing. It has a small balcony with seating that looks into the courtyard of the hotel. It has a king bed and a working fireplace. My only negative with that room was that there was no AC. However, the staff was amazing and gave us a fan which was all we needed. There are not enough words to describe how amazing this place is. ||The location is great! Its within walking distance of everything. Its on a street with many art galleries and great food. There is a great cafe directly across the street and just up the street from a great rooftop restaurant and bar with killer views and...
Read moreFour years ago while traveling with friends we stumbled across Antigua Vapor. We enjoyed the place so much we did not even consider staying at a different place when we returned to Guanajuato earlier this month with our wives. The two biggest pluses are the convenient location and the super friendly staff and owner. It’s less than a 5 minute walk to the historical center which which makes for a quieter stay without sacrificing access to the great restaurants and the historical center. ||I read the negative reviews and I would agree the beds are a bit on the hard side (which I consider another plus). Some, but not all, of the rooms require scheduling of hot water service but that is easy enough to do and can be done in advance. The security, historical ambiance and great staff more than make up...
