My mom and I visited Tazón de Barro for dinner this evening and as soon as we walked in we were given a warm welcome.
Lucy, the owner and chef is very kind and friendly which made our experience very memorable.
There is a set menu which removes the indecision for those who have a difficult time making a choice.
This evening we were presented with a refreshing cucumber lime mint agua del dia sweetened with stevia, and to start we had a rich and smoky chipotle lentil soup.
We were happy to have arrived on a day where Mexican plant food was on the menu, so the next up was three different tacos; a chickpea chorizo, chickpea tempeh, and a jamaica (hibiscus) taco. All served on warm organic yellow and blue corn tortillas, with fresh lime, and a few salads and toppings.
Everything was very delicious, fresh, and healthy. You can taste the love and care put into the food. We were left feeling extremely satisfied.
The restaurant is set in an intimate space-just a few seats at a bar where you can watch Lucy craft her plant magic and chat with fellow diners.
Be sure to make reservations if you want to try this one of a kind restaurant in Guanajuato.
We wish Lucy all the best in her plant based culinary adventures 🌱
And to future...

I think of my visits as a dinner party with strangers who become friends. While grating beets, squeezing oranges & limes (she prefers their acids to vinegars), Lucy is also a gracious host. She introduces each guest to the others and adds to the conversation. By the time dinner ends, the group is a group & a group photo is in order!
Lucy cares about her ingredients because she cares about the aesthetic-medicine (both beautiful and nourishing) —the health and wellbeing of those she feeds.
True to her principles, Lucy’s space doesn’t artificially create, but rather meets already-present human needs for connection, pleasure, and nutrition.
Of my eight visits, the quiche—even better than one made with eggs! A velvety interior I didn’t know was possible—and tacos—a chewy hibiscus & a chickpea chorizo with a panoply of toppings (I esp. liked the sour non-tuna and nopales salsas) on excellent tortillas. Also, a perfect tomato sauce like the one that surrounded the zucchini cannolini is a direct route...

The menu changes every day and you won't be disappointed! You are serves an appetizer, a main dish & a yummy drink. My favorite dishes were the EVERYTHING but I loved the lasagna, chile en nogada and cauliflower soup. The space sits about 6 people with an additional more intimate room for you to sit, eat, relax and enjoy the plants & herbs she’s growing.
My favorite part of the experience is watching Lucy bring her food to life, it's a great experience.
