Our stay was wonderful and we will go back. I was there with my wife and four daughters. Right from the get-go at check-in Elizabeth greeted us with a huge smile. Elizabeth's communication and hospitality skills were excellent. She made us feel like we had just come home from a long journey. Which wehad:)
Luis and help immediately took our truck load of Baggage to the room.it was like as lightning speed.
After getting settled we went out to discover the beautiful grounds of the Marcela Resort. The jungle vegetation and landscaping is breathtaking: coming from a green thumb if i say so myself. We went for a swim and decided to stay at the hotel to have dinner at thier restaurant. Wow food was delicious...everything! We stayed for 7 nights and patronized the restaurant several times. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner a few time and to never disappoint. Chef's Erick and company had it going on. And im a foodie from San Francisco Ca Bay Area.
The Bartenders at the pool Oscar, Jose, and Yahir who had the greates personality. He would call me Senor Raymon:)
There were several other personnel who were also AWESOME.
A special high five goes out to Betti. She was the Bomb and took well care of us all. I call her Wonder Woman. Thank you.
Accommodations were spectacular. we rented one of the penthouses. It was well decorated. Compliments to the Interior designer Marcela. We felt at home it was super cozy beds were dreamy. It was a three bedroom three bathrooms with windows all around with incredible views of Banderas Bay. Priceless.
Location location location with a few stairs. My family and I travel to PV annually and this was the 1st time we did not rent a vehicle.
I loved waking up to the gorgeous mornings having cup of jave on the terrace the go out to do my morniing walk into downtown La Área Romántica to the end of the Malecón n back
Then getting ready and taking the family for our daily adventure. The hidden Beaches or hanging out at the beach club of La Palapa or El Dorado being pampered. The walk home was a bit more challenging after doing nothing but RnR. However, the consolation was one, the Corona Micheladas/Michechevas store just before the stairs to Marcela Resort. Talk about Micheladas out of this world!!! Then second, diving into the pool at the Resort...bliss. keep in mind i was in PV mid July. Just loved it.
Places I recommend eat and to enjoy the scene:

Let me start by saying my fiancé and I are in the hospitality business and we were extremely impressed by attentive and welcoming staff, the grounds, the location, the hotel, the pool the food and the service. We needed a place to really relax and unplug from the stress of everyday life. Marcela was paradise for us! Betty greeted us upon arrival and checked us in with ease. Shortly after we got to our room someone brought us a complimentary appetizer and a fruity drink which was really refreshing after a long journey.
We stayed in the Hortencia Villa – 4A. It’s a two bedroom, two bath with amazing views of the bay from the balcony off of the bedroom, living room and dining room. The villa came fully equipped with everything you would need to prepare a gourmet meal however PV is a foodie paradise so we didn’t utilize the kitchen too much. They even provide complimentary coffee, creamer, sugar, ice and purified water in your kitchen. And towels….so many fresh towels! There was also a washer and dryer with laundry detergent and softener which came in handy. The bed was so comfortable with blackout curtains so you can sleep in past sunrise. We considered staying in the Romantic Zone but opted for Marcela because we were concerned about the noise if we stayed right in town. It is nice a quiet at night being located right above the busy city.
The landscaping and vegetation are lush. The pool area has really comfortable loungers, towels, and bar service. There’s always an area around the patio will full sun if you want to go home with a nice tan.
The property is pristine! The location is perfect as Marcela is in the Amapas which is right above the Romantic Zone. We walked down to Los Muertos beach each day. It’s an uphill trek back so sometimes we would hail a taxi for 80 pesos (which converts to about $4 US).
The staff here is amazing! Everyone greets you with a smile. The manager, Ernesto was so knowledgeable and kind. He took us on a tour of the property and showed us the man made Cave Suite. The cave is built into the side of a hilltop with amazing views of the bay of Banderas and the city. It is so spacious and even has a private outdoor hot tub. It would perfect for a honeymoon or romantic getaway.
We downloaded the Whatsapp as this is their mode of communication and they would answer us immediately.
We are already planning our next visit to PV and will definitely be staying at Marcela. Our new home...
Read moreWe absolutely loved the Marcela Resort. This was probably the nicest hotel "room" I have ever stayed in. It was a 2-bedroom / 2-bath unit, and HUGE - at least by American standards. From the wrap-around deck, it had an amazing view of the pool, down the mountain toward the Zona Romantica, and out to the ocean. It had a full kitchen, completely separate jacuzzi, and in-unit laundry. The price was still very reasonable for what we got (we booked through Vrbo).
The whole property was well-kept and nicely decorated. It's also very picturesque - instead of typical cookie-cutter hotel, the building itself is really interesting, and the gardens all over the grounds are full of pathways with landscaping and beautiful nighttime lighting. And the pool is crazy; it's 5(!) levels, going down the slope of the mountain. We spent a lot of time hanging out at the pool in the sun. All of the front desk staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and spoke English well. They even kindly walked us through the "cave room" upon our request, since it was vacant that night - definitely the most cool and unique hotel room I've ever seen in person!
The only downside we experienced was that the room did not have good soundproofing, so we could hear people in the hallway and in the adjacent unit if they were talking or making noise. We were on the main "lobby" floor, so it's probably much less of an issue on the upper floors. Fortunately, it was pretty quiet at night.
The location is a bit of a way up the mountain from the Zona Romantica - about a 10-min walk. This could be a disadvantage to some, but we appreciated the fact that it was completely free of the noise from the Zona Romantica nightlife. And Ubers are very cheap in Puerto Vallarta, so getting a quick ride back up to the resort only cost a couple of US$.
Hope we can come...
