Colmena Hotel CDMX Centro — Hotel in Mexico City

Abysmal treatment. If you can find somewhere else nearby for similar price just do it. Never been treated so poorly in a hotel in my life. Checked into this hotel for 7 days and shown to our room. Went out sightseeing on day 2 and came back to ALL of our belongings waiting for us in the lobby. Every single item we owned including passports, clothing, bags and electronics stuffed into a laundry basket. Felt like we were thrown out on the street , very disturbing. Told members of staff and was finally put on the phone to the manager, we were told there was a mistake and they very apologetic and offered us an upgraded room for the remainder of our stay and a free lunch with a guarantee this would not happen again. Still shook up, we took them up on the offer and we moved room again. Beggars belief , on Day 5 whilst getting ready to head out, a member of staff comes to our room telling us we need to move AGAIN ! That they will move our stuff for us , luckily we were in the room but I believe they were preparing to leave our belongings in the lobby again. We asked to speak to the same manager who upgraded us. He told us the upgrade was only for 3 days and we must move. He seemed to have forgot that they threw all our belongings out into the lobby only a few days prior. The manager was not budging and with a completely different attitude and manner than he had the other day we had no choice but to move for a 3rd time!! The B&B building is quite nice, it has a nice patio where you will have breakfast and has clean and renewed common areas in general.

The rooms have one big window which is also the entrance, meaning that if you want to feel safer at night you would keep it closed but then it gets super hot in there as there’s no air conditioning. The night curtains don’t fully close, they could improve the privacy a bit.

The room itself is okay, has everything you need. One more bedside table would be nice but not a big deal.

The breakfast is okay but it’s served 9am-10am which is quite limiting if you want an early start. Also, there’s no milk but only “cream powder” which felt a little weird.

The location is right behind Zócalo, the main square, which makes it a good choice if you plan to visit the historical center only. In daytime is also a safe area, it’s right in the middle of a market and it’s full of people. In the evening it feels a bit sketchy, there’s no one in the street anymore and I would recommend going back by cab to feel safer. I read in some other reviews that there are homeless people around but I haven’t seen any.

If you plan to visit Ciudad de México for more days I would recommend staying in Roma, Zona Rosa or Condesa, which are safer at night and have a lot of restaurants or pubs where you might want to go.

Hostal ubicado en el Centro de la Ciudad de México, en la calle Luis González Obregón. Nuestra estadía de 8 días fue muy buena, nos llevamos una buena experiencia y volveríamos. Quiero compartir algunos detalles que te ayudarán a decidir:

🚪 La puerta del lugar no tiene un letrero, por lo que no es tan fácil de ubicar en primera instancia. Está ubicado en una calle semi-peatonal, lo ubicas por una puerta grande de madera con un número 17 al lado derecho. Hay un timbre para anunciar la llegada.

🏨 El lugar es nuevo, por lo que todas las habitaciones y fachadas son casi nuevas. Sin embargo, el lugar no cuenta (todavía) con una recepción dónde anunciarse. Entras directamente a la sala de la casa. De igual forma siempre hay una persona encargada que te recibe con amabilidad. Te entregan llave de la habitación y llave de la puerta principal.

🛌 Son tres pisos de habitaciones. En el primer piso está la cocina, el comedor, la sala de TV, un patio y la sala de lavandería. Cada habitación cuenta con un baño privado, una nevera pequeña, un pequeño closet y un pequeño escritorio con silla. Las puertas son ventanales grandes con una cortina negra que las tapa. Son grandes y espaciosas. Si hace calor, te prestan un ventilador de mesa. La ducha tiene agua caliente.

📺 Las habitaciones no tienen TV. El único que hay se encuentra en la sala de la casa en el primer piso, el cuál, es un espacio compartido. La cocina, la sala de lavar y el patio también son espacios compartidos con los demás huéspedes.

⭐ Los jóvenes que atienden son personas muy amables. Nos ayudaron a guardar las maletas mientras llegaba la hora del check in.

🚽 Constantemente hay servicio de aseo en la habitación. A veces lo hicieron sin avisarnos y sin nosotros estar presentes en la habitación, pero no hubo ningún inconveniente.

🧼👕 El cuarto de lavado cuenta con una lavadora, una secadora, una plancha y mesa para planchar. Es compartido con todos los huéspedes. Debes llevar tu propio jabón para lavar.

🇲🇽 Está a una cuadra de la Plaza Santo Domingo, dónde constantemente hay un tianguis. A una cuadra hay un pequeño 7-Eleven y a unas 4 cuadras está el Zócalo, con la estación Zócalo del Metro. También está cerca de la Estación Allende. Puedes llegar caminando a cualquier lugar en 5 minutos.

Aspectos a mejorar:

🎒🧳 Hay gran afluencia de turistas extranjeros desde muy temprano en la mañana. Se reúnen en el patio del primer piso para hablar, reírse, fumar y hasta poner música, perjudicando la tranquilidad de los huéspedes del primer piso en la mañana y en la noche. No es algo que pase siempre, por supuesto. Depende del tipo de personas que estén en ese momento.

📦 En las afueras del hostal viven personas en situación de calle en refugios improvisados a un par de metros de la puerta. Nunca tuvimos inconvenientes con ellos, pero puede dar una impresión de inseguridad, especialmente en altas horas de la noche y...
