As a very experienced traveler, I know within 5 minutes if I am going to have a good or bad experience either in a restaurant or at a hotel. Based on visiting CDMX about 14 times and staying around the Zocalo area, here is my fair assessment of the Hotel Catedral. The Good: • The facilities are old but very well-kept. The premises are very clean, and the rooms are great. The beds, towels and pillows are very comfortable and the cleaning ladies did a superb job every day cleaning our room. One of our bathroom lights broke and I forgot to report it, however upon my return in the afternoon, it was fixed and that is what I call attention to detail. • The air conditioning was functioning perfectly and kept us cold at all times. T.V. was also a nice size, with limited programming but we did not stay there to watch T.V. so all was alright. • The shower had good water pressure, faucet, and the toilet with great pressure as well. The toilet paper smelled really good like it had perfume on it which we enjoyed. They replaced shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap every day. • A very modern safe box in the room gave us a sense of security and the lighting of the room was perfect. • The hotel has two terraces with great views (at the top) and they have coffee and tea close to them so you can have a relaxing time. • They receive you with a fresh bottle of water and fruit or chips if you like and they replace the drinking water in your room every day. The Bad: • I cannot really think of anything really bad of this hotel but the reason I did not give it 5 stars is because of the following: o I made my reservation about 3 months in advance, paid it off, and requested a room away from the elevator (based on experience those are the noisy ones). The room I got was exactly close to the elevator and people staying in the rooms facing the street had to pass by our room. Needless to say we could not sleep later than 7 a.m. because people were so loud going to breakfast and that kind of ruined our stay. The can do better: • At arrival, the front desk could not help us soon because they were looking for someone who spoke English and that took time. They told us a few minutes so we went to eat at the restaurant they have within the hotel and after 45 minutes we returned. They still told us wait a minute which was another 10 minutes. I would recommend having someone who speaks English, especially during the day. Checking in on time is vital because the traveler might arrive tired and want to rest. • On the last day of the trip and when we were ready to check out, we were trying to go downstairs with our luggage and we noticed that someone (cleaning people) had the elevator stopped on floor 5 so we could not use the elevator. I would recommend not to stop it since people with big bags cannot carry their luggage. • Our reservation included breakfast (of course we paid extra), but I noticed every morning the waiters left a note on the table saying “tip is not included in the service” which at the beginning I thought it was not something I will do because I always tip, but after carefully observing clients, I noticed they wanted good service and left with no tips, so I guess that is alright. Honor mentions: As always, there are people that for a good reason their names stay in your head and that reason is because they provide excellent service. I would like to give special Thanks to Telma in the kitchen, Andy at the front desk and Karla the hostess. These individuals made our stay great and they deserve recognition. Overall I fully recommend this hotel as a good option to stay close to the Zocalo and hope if I decide to stay here again, they honor my request of a room away from the elevator and facing the street.

This was my third trip of the year to CDMX but my first stay at Hotel Catedral. I had been staying at a hotel across Parque de la Alameda just steps from Bellas Artes since 2018. And I had no idea what I had been missing by not venturing into trying Hotel Catedral. I am head over heels in love with this property. Even as my arrival was impacted by the massive manifestation across Zócalo that had spread to both entrances of the hotel, I can only say good things about my choice. Visually pleasing from the moment you walk towards the reception area, it is an inviting place that leaves you wanting for more. My room was just perfect even though I tried to get one at the new tower. But I had a great view and a window I enjoyed even during a storm that made me feel at home. The bathroom was large, extremely clean and it had a bidet. Something common in my country of origin but a surprise to get in MX. The bed was so comfortable that made me forget about years back when going to MX would mean hard as rock mattresses. Hotel Catedral knows how to cater to your sleeping comfort and the sheets were high quality. My only negative comment is related to my heartache as I watched the wonderful housekeepers go about their hard work without housekeeping carts. They had all the supplies on a special floor bag and they had to be either bending or on their knees to gather what they needed to do the rooms. That was hard to watch and I can't imagine how hard it has to be on their backs. Please, do something to improve this. Otherwise I can't wait to go back in a couple of months for a longer stay. As you walk out on the Guatemala side of the hotel it is just a brief walk and you are smack in the middle of Templo Mayor and Catedral Zócalo awaits with open arms. Donceles is a heaven for book lovers like me and you can wander the street exploring the magical bookstores and the historic ambiance of the area. I will never stop booking this lovely hotel with amazing views of the cathedral and Zócalo. Did I mention the glass floor and The ruins below? I would never finish this review fellow travelers!❤️💖

Hotel Catedral Review I booked this hotel based on reviews and pictures highlighting a view of the Catedral, but that turned out to be misleading. The hotel is divided into two sections—the newer building across from the Catedral and the older section, where I stayed. Unfortunately, my experience in the older section did not meet expectations. Booking through the hotel’s website was also confusing. The language switch is combined with the currency selection, making it difficult to find. When I booked, I wasn’t able to view the site in English, so I didn’t realize how small the room was or that it only had a queen-size bed. Had I known, I would have booked a room with two beds, which comes at a similar price but without an extra charge for an additional guest, rather than this one-bed option with an added fee. Despite booking for two, the room felt cramped, and the queen-size bed was too small for two people. The overall quality didn’t match what I would expect from a four-star hotel. I stayed in Room 301, which had no view and was located directly across from the main cleaning room and near the elevator. Because of this, I constantly heard noise from housekeeping staff and other guests. The thin walls only made it worse, making it difficult to get a restful night’s sleep. To add to the discomfort, there was painting going on during my stay, and the strong odor lingered throughout the area. On the bright side, the service was attentive, and the breakfast buffet was excellent. I also appreciated the complimentary coffee and water available throughout the day. However, the room quality and overall experience left me disappointed. If you’re considering booking here, I’d strongly recommend confirming which section of the hotel you’ll be placed in and double-checking your room details before finalizing your reservation.

Just spent 4 fantastic nights at the Hotel Catedral.I had stayed and reviewed the hotel before but had not been back since the opening of the new Pyramid Tower which is just spectacular. My room, 1410, was big with extremely comfortable beds, fridge, tv with hundreds of channels and YouTube, Netflix, etc., a comforting rain shower, etc., etc. The room was spotlessly cleaned every day by the wonderful house staff. In fact, every single member of the staff went above and beyond to make the stay welcome. A big kudos to Emmanuel Espinosa who was extremely helpful, friendly and assisted us. By all means, get the breakfast! There is so much on offer that you can easily fill up here and not eat anything 'til dinner. Not only are there tons of items, hot and cold, on offer, they will make pretty much anything you'd like. The other restaurant area is very popular with locals. We had soup there one day and it was delicious and very affordable. The staff at the breakfast buffet was very helpful, friendly and always looking for a way to make your breakfast experience delicious. Another great plus is the presence of the owners, the father and son. They are always present, walking around and will always stop and talk to you about anything regarding the hotel. We had a good 20 minute conversation with the father about the construction of the new part of the hotel above Mixcoac ruins (which you can see through the glass floor). On another occasion, the son was standing in the corridor between the old part of the hotel and the new part and just shaking everyone's hand as you passed by. Finally, location, location, location - you are literally behind the Cathedral. It's less than a 5 minute walk to the Zocalo and the Templo Mayor. Just a wonderful, wonderful stay - everyone is so great, the new Tower is so beautiful, the food is so delicious -I would just live and work there!!!!Just came back from 4 fantastic nights at the Hotel Catedral. My wife and I spent five memorable nights at Hotel Catedral and were deeply impressed by the experience from start to finish. The hospitality here is exceptional—truly above and beyond. The staff greeted us with warmth and genuine care and even offered to personally walk us to nearby spots when roads were blocked due to the peaceful teacher protests happening in the Zócalo. Whether it was helping us find an ATM or locating our Uber pickup point, their kindness and thoughtfulness made a lasting impression.

Our room was spacious, cozy, and impeccably clean, with daily housekeeping we really appreciated. The bathroom included a comfortable tub and even a bidet—something we didn’t expect but were very happy to have. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and we especially loved the pillow menu, offering a variety of options to help each guest find their perfect fit—such a thoughtful touch!

One of the standout features of the hotel is its deep connection to the history of Mexico City. Built atop a portion of the ruins of Tenochtitlan, the hotel features a glass walkway where you can view the remains below and enjoy breakfast while overlooking even more. Speaking of breakfast—it was delicious, with a wide selection of fresh dishes and drinks, and definitely worth including as part of your stay.

Another major highlight was the hotel’s terrace bar, which offers a panoramic view of the Zócalo and Catedral Metropolitana. While the square was filled with protesting teachers during our visit, we found it meaningful to witness this moment of civic action—it only deepened our connection to the city.

Among the many thoughtful amenities, we especially appreciated the complimentary bottled water (available from the moment we arrived and replenished in the lobby fridges on the first floor), and the packed lunches the hotel prepared for us the morning of our Xochimilco excursion.
