We stumbled into this restaurant entirely by accident. We visited Morelia in late October, which is normally after the rainy season, so of course it rained every afternoon. One afternoon the rain was so heavy, we sought refuge under one of the porticos that surround the cathedral and plaza. We had to leave our perch once the drainage system was overwhelmed and the sidewalk we were on began to flood. We crossed the street to the next block and decided to have a mezcal and sit for a bit. We ended up staying well over an hour, having a few mezcals and a nosh. We enjoyed the experience so much we returned again before the end of our stay. The service both times was efficient & courteous, but more importantly, very friendly. That is something we noticed in every restaurant and mezcal bar in the city. Both times we dined there, we opted for a tapas-like experience by ordering mostly appetizers. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the mezcal and tequila list, while not as large as at some mezcalerias, is more than adequate with a careful selection of very nice to excellent local agave spirits. We are definitely returning to Morelia and La Conspiracion will be on our list of favorite places to spend an...
Read moreThis dining spot, despite receiving high praise from a local friend and boasting a decent Google rating, fell short of my expectations in terms of food quality. The house-style guacamole, while tasty and well-presented, was a standout amidst an otherwise lackluster meal. The enchiladas lacked moisture and were notably lacking in flavor, while the pacholas, although featuring tasty meat, left a rather bland impression. The timbale of black gold rounded off the meal, yet failed to impress. The setting itself was picturesque, but the overall experience felt somewhat like a tourist trap. Despite the appealing location, the food didn't quite match up to the anticipation built by recommendations and online reviews. Overall, it's what I'd categorize as an average...
Read moreAverage food (in comparison to a lot of better options across town/state) and poor service for expensive prices. The food feels dated — regional flavours, plated like they are trying really hard to be fine dining but comes off like it’s fine dining in the 80s/90s.
Service was very passive, to the point of rude — lacklustre responses to questions about the menu (we spoke in Spanish) and not even a thank you when we paid and left.
If you sit on the terrace be prepared to be hounded by bees, vendors and others asking for money.
Much better options everywhere - definitely a big pass. What a waste of a...
