My partner and I stayed at Maquil in August. We stayed for four nights. It was our first time at the hotel and our first time in Zipo. The hotel is an amazing place to stay at. Our room was Ebano. It was such a wonderful experience at Maquil that we hope to return soon.||Pros |- The views from our room were amazing in the day and at night.|- Our room was clean and was cleaned every single day|- The room had a Smart TV (I connected my home FireStick with no issues)|- The WiFi in the room was strong|- The bed was extremely comfortable.|- The AC was cold and it worked!|- Our room had two floors. The bottom floor had a fully equipped kitchen (we only used the fridge), a half bathroom (it came in handy), and a private pool with two loungers. The pool was cold and refreshing. And it was pretty big as well. Not much smaller than the actual hotel pool.|- The second floor was our room, restroom, and balcony. The view from the restroom was amazing. You have a clear view of Zipolite Beach from the huge private windows in the restroom. The bedroom was spacious. We never used the balcony. |- All Maquil hotel guests are entitled to have breakfast at Casa Sol, its sister property. The breakfast was tasty and plentiful every single morning. The cook is amazing. The service is amazing. I cannot wait to return and have breakfast again at Casa Sol. Also all Maquil guests are invited to a daily happy hour at Casa Sol. The young female bartender makes a tasty Gin and Tonic! Again, options were plentiful and service was on point.|- Our room was super quiet. It seemed like there was no one at Maquil but us.|- Both restaurants at the hotel were delicious. We had two meals at each location and were happy with the food and flavor for all four meals.|- By far the nicest and most attentive hotel staff i have ever experienced. I loved the staff.||Cons| - The amount of steps you have to climb to get to the beach and from the beach are ridiculous. Dozens and Dozens of steps. If you have mobility issues, Maquil is NOT for you. It is nowhere near ADA-friendly.|- Know that the walk to the beach will be about 8 hot minutes. The walk is fully shaded to the beach. But it is dozens of steps down and then through a couple of dusty paths. |- Check In/out, breakfast, and happy hour are at Casa Sol. That means having to walk down to Casa and then back up to Maquil. Not a lot of distance, but it’s still a climb on the way back to our room.||Overall, Maquil was worth the stay. The staff, the room, the food! It was all so worth it. I highly HIGHLY recommend Maquil. It may be a distance to the beach, but it is a great place to stay. Can't wait to go back...
Read moreSeven of us met at Maquil for our first (but not the last) trip to Zipolite. Between us we were able to sample four of the amazing villas. None of them were lacking. We spent so much time in the Tule suite lounging and splashing in our private pool (which provided lovely shade for most of the day) that we honestly didn’t want to leave. ||Each villa was unique and comfortable with efficient kitchens, incredible art, very comfortable beds with quality linens, a/c in the bedrooms, great bathrooms, the best service, and amazing places to eat. The restaurant Q’s elevated Oaxacan cuisine was paired perfectly with the excellent quality tacos and guacamole at the clubhouse by the pool (don’t miss the shrimp tacos with a refreshing chelada).||Each morning we enjoyed fruit, yogurt and fresh banana bread which was accompanied by a hot breakfast item that changed each day at their sister hotel Casa Sol across the street. Plus each evening they host a happy hour where all the guests can mingle and have a nice glass of wine or a beer. There were always interesting people to meet and the staff provided excellent and attentive service ensuring everyone’s glass was always full. ||It was just a short walk down the path to Zipolite but honestly we didn’t tire of the amenities at Maquil and only ventured into town for a few meals. The views of the beach from our room were stunning and the private beach at Casa Sol was a great place to hang out (just ask the staff to set up a couple chairs and an umbrella on the beach for you). There are also a few other pools to enjoy across the properties - we took advantage of them. ||Our ten day stay felt too short at the end. We will definitely be back. The hosts Jorge and Craig have built something truly magical on the hill. If you go - you will not be...
Read moreMaquil a lush tropical getaway nestled in a quaint “greek island” style street. Once you step in, you are Instantly transported to a tropical get away, away from everything but the birds serenading you. Each villa is exquisitely decorated with each detail accentuating what can only be described as perfect pitch taste. It is often said in hospitality that the recipe for success is in the details, and Maquil and casa sol have it down to the T. From the staff remembering your name to constantly giving you small tips to make your stay more comfortable, and even serving you with a smile. Casa sol across the street is the main hotel owned by the same owners, this is where breakfast and happy hour will be served, the views here are just amazing.
