Zipolite had a hurricane recently and we verified that the hotel was open before arriving.
Was it open? Sure, technically. Should it have been? Probably not.
Construction workers outnumbered guests 10 to 1 and any pleasant atmosphere that could have existed didn't make it through the chorus of hammering that started early in the morning and continued late into the evening. The energy level was more similar to being in an airplane terminal that was under construction than a beach hotel.
The room was basic. Bedding was new. If you left the bathroom door open a strong sewage smell entered the room.
Beyond all this, we probably would have stayed and enjoyed the town. Everyone was rebuilding and it had a fun energy, but I got very sick the first night and decided that I would rather be somewhere with my own kitchen to recover. We requested as of around 9:30A the second day to have nights 3/4/5 refunded, we were told by the very helpful desk staff that they'd have to check with the 'the boss' who was in a meeting. We checked in again around noon, and there was no update. 'The boss' remained at a table the whole time, staring at his phone, doing apparently nothing while I waited nauseously to hear if we would be able get a refund.
After about six hours and several check ins, they agreed to refund us one night out of 5. We were made to feel as if they were doing us a favor, and that we should be so lucky as to have been able to stay in their construction zone, incomplete hotel. For the rest of the time, 'the boss' stared at us angrily if we left our room from the common space where he spent his days.
We didn't use the restaurant. It wasn't closed while they installed a roof over it, though, despite having power tools/drills being used directly above the cooking surfaces. Not safe/healthy.
For 2-3x the cost of everywhere else we stayed in Mexico, this place is not worth your time or money. Boss needs to check his attitude and his ego if this place will ever be worth the money. Skip it, skip...
Read moreA couple of things that need to be improved on this property. First things first, this is a beautiful property, the people very nice and the housekeeping superb. But for this much money you couldn't put two complimentary bottles of water in the room to greet your guests? Or how about four pillows (I stayed in a property that cost much less than Noga in Zipolite and there were four pillows per queen size bed - that is eight pillows in the room, Noga provides two 👎). When I went to the front desk I was told they had no extras. REALLY?? You are a hotel? When I voiced my disappointment, 15 minutes later someone delivered two extra pillows to our room. What was that all about?? Why wouldn't you say, I'll check instead of flat out saying NO??
How about labeling what is in the bottles in the bathroom? It would have been nice to know whether or not we needed to buy insect repellent for the mosquitoes at dusk (which are brutal on this property and which we did end up buying) or sunblock? There are various bottles of something in the bath with NO explanation. C'mon, leave a list or mark the bottles!!
We went into the "town" area for dinner and the lights to the path were turned off by 10:30. REALLY?? I am paying this much for a room and I have to use the flashlight on my phone to navigate the property? That is just ridiculous. The lights on your walkway back to the property should be left on until at least midnight.
In addition to this lovely "eco" look property there is a wood working yard right next door. Expect to be awakened by saws, hammering, and workers by 7:00 am every morning.
The truth of the matter is that this property doesn't really fit the vibe of Zipolite. We ended up eating, using the pool, and drinking at the bar in the Hotel Nude (the property next door). If they had had a vacancy I would rather have stayed at the Hotel Nude. Overall I was very disappointed by my...
Read moreAn oasis that ended up being a mirage — Our experience at Hotel Noga, Zipolite
We arrived at Hotel Noga with high expectations: four days of relaxation in Zipolite with my partner and another couple. From the very beginning, the situation was different. We were assigned different rooms than the ones we had booked, without a single explanation. The hotel had a persistent smell of stagnant water or recycled sewage that permeated the entire atmosphere. Despite its high prices, the experience was more like staying at a makeshift house for party-loving friends than a professional hotel.
One night at the bar, the manager—visibly euphoric—approached us with an attitude that was as familiar as it was out of place, speaking to us as if we were his “drinking buddies.” Things escalated when, halfway through our stay, we were asked to leave our room because the hotel owner had decided to vacation with his family and wanted that very room. From the moment they arrived, all attention was focused on them, and the other guests were relegated to an uncomfortable and humiliating background.
The restaurant service was another disaster. We waited over 40 minutes for our food, and one of the dishes never arrived; they simply forgot about it. In short: if you're planning a trip to Zipolite looking for a peaceful place with professional service and customer service, I advise you to avoid this hotel. Noga is not a refuge; it's a poorly made-up chaos with boutique...
