Wow, many things! Ok, as a world traveler I’ve lived and and slept in many places… and the Mayan Monkey is top of my list for amount of accommodations, level of service and overall vibe of the property. There’s a kitchen that’s well maintained, fridges for food or ingredients, 2 full cook tops , pots, pans, a dry storage area & clean filtered drinking water provided in mass. That’s just the kitchen.
The property was under renovation while I was there, they were updating the paint and working on some finishing touch ups. The area stayed clean and open during the whole time except while the ceilings were being painted maybe a 24 hour closing of the common area. Punctual, efficient, welcoming.
The rooms, there’s dorm with 12 bunks and some solo room options as far as I saw. The bunks are super nice. Very I want to say Japanese? Wooden overlay, outlet, night light, high quality privacy curtain, a shelf in the bed area for personal items, locker spaces designated to each bed number with an area for a personal lock. Cleaners come in every day to clean the floors toilets and showers, again very welcoming staff.
The Bar, I was hesitant at first to hang out in the bar area but boy did that change once I gave it a chance. They host karaoke nights 2 times a week, beer Olympics once, a team contest, ladies night and 2 for 1 burger night (x2). A lot of shots are offered during the games as well, for singing karaoke, returning the beer pong ball and maybe a few others. This may change but it was my experience. There’s a pool directly connected to the bar, you can sit in it and drink at a poolside bar top! The pool is definitely a chillin pool in my opinion, maybe a meter and a half deep. Next! The sun beds, there’s tons of shaded spots and sunny spots for chilling or laying out. The Bar has a winding style that opens with a large area to mingle sit or dance, with stairs leading to a pool and a place to rise above the party and get a nice view and breathe - with a super cool cushioned area to relax in.
They treated me well, thank you all for the service and friendship you offered!
Staff 10/10
The Owners… Que Verguensa - my friends greed kills a light faster than most choices and yours is very apparent in the small details you’ve overlooked. No one else, you the owners. Also, a profit share of nearly 27%? - for the all people who actually make you the money… is one way to do business. - if you don’t compensate fairly the people who keep your whole show running. You will eventually experience a loss in visitation and profits. Don’t switch up in 5 years? You will see the consequences of such choices in mass. One can only step on people for so long before they leave or seek to destroy...
Read moreI have booked a private room for two weeks, and I totally regret it. I am currently half way in my trip. I have a private bathroom, but no hot water. I have told the staff multiple time, and nothing has changed.."yes we will look at it" they say, but really, they don't care. I would have left and gone to another quieter coworking hostel if this was refundable, in a heart beat. They charge a lot of money for that room and I can't even take a proper shower. The bed is very comfortable and the air conditioning works well. The room is also clean and comes with towel. No mini fridge or desk space though in the bedroom. The bedroom design is overall beautiful but I can't recommend this hostel to anybody because of the lack of hot water.
I am using the coworking space to work remotely, and it is tiny. I have to run down there every morning to make sure that I have a spot for the day. It's annoying. That is why a desk space would be nice in the room. We had a power shut down(no one warned us although it was a planned one), but there was at least power in the coworking space and internet. Wifi is working really well. Breakfast is great and totally worth it, and the kitchen staff is amazing and friendly. Lunch and dinner food is decent, with gringo meals and few mexican dishes. But this is not a local cuisine restaurant.
Dance nights are great. The hotel prepares activities daily for the guest, but they are mostly on weekdays( very few on weekends), so if you are working remotely Monday to Friday, you won't be able to join them. They rent bikes but they don't have many so you got to hurry at 9am in the morning to get one. Otherwise you can go down the road to get one, which are more expensive. The sun bathing/pool area is beautiful, although there is very few lounge chair to accomodate that many guests. This is a party hostel, so it is extremely loud. Bring your earplugs, you will need them. Crowd is mostly in their 20's. Yoga wasn't available when I got here but they seem to have it going again now. They only have morning session, so if you are working 8-4 typical work hours, you won't be able to take any classes. Location is ok, you can bike to the beach in 20-25 min, but the collectivo stop is a 15 min walk. Downtown taquerias are also between 10-20 minutes walk. They don't organize tours, but there are a few companies that does on the adjacent main boulevard nearby. They offer a laundry service for 100 pesos, which you got to book a day in advance. Kitchen facilities and fridge are way too small for the size of this Hostel. I think...
Read moreI stayed at the the Mayan Monkey Tulum let’s just say I will be vlogging about this for 10days MAX. The hotel is a nice structured building, the location is great I can say that. Some key things the hotel must consider is 1. an elevator to help with luggage 🧳 and those who have medical issues. No, they do not have anyone to help you with bags I was fortunate that a stranger who was staying there helped. 2. They should not allow people to sit / block the staircase THIS IS BAD FOR BUSINESS! I will be posting the full video of the reason why. 3. Do NOT include breakfast in your stay DO not. The reasons why are you will be charged for a service you will not get! The only thing they would say is(I’m sorry). Please BEAWARE. 4. The laundry room isn’t FREE you must schedule a time and pay before using. 5. This location is NOT for older people. This is a place for very young drug infested people who don’t care about their life. 5. Please do not depend on the security guard to help with anything as well as the live-in manger! ( I was attacked by a man and they did nothing about it and yes the cameras 🎥 caught the incident). LADIES DO NOT TRAVEL ALONE TO THIS PARTICULAR location I highly recommend traveling with a group or people who are about that life to fight better yet carry a weapon! 6. It’s redundant to report any issues to the staff they will ALWAYS say I’ll tell my manager 😠 about it! The manager doesn’t get there until 9 again he lives there. I would highly recommend reading each review on here before considering booking. 7. They don’t clean the showers from what I’ve seen with housekeeping. Staying in a dormitory at least sanitize the showers and restrooms. SIDE note bring your own toilet 🚽 covers and cleaning spray because I did. 8. The outlets in the computer room doesn’t work! 9. Some what culture friendly I’m from the US I didn’t feel welcomed and being black I’m tulum at this particular place is terrible being called a BLACK bi$Ch was the worse when I physically assaulted! 10. ATM CHARGES A 9.50 fee USD!
Again I wouldn’t recommend this hostel in tulum I don’t even want to give it any star's! Being attacked and feeling helpless on their premises...
