This is my final day/night at the Kimpton Aluna Resort in Tulum, Mexico and I definitely do not want to go home! This hotel is so gorgeous the pictures don’t do it justice. I recommend a ground floor room. You have a small covered terrace with two plush lounge chairs and just a few steps to the pool. If you want an adults only pool, there is a beautiful one with sunbeds on the rooftop. My first 2 1/2 days here were probably the most peaceful I’ve ever had in my life. More people arrived and depending the time, and if there are kids, it may get a little loud, but nothing out of the ordinary. The room is pure luxury. So much prettier than the pictures on the website and very big. The hotel is not on the beach, but you can rent a bike, rent a car or take a taxi. Super easy. The hotel is so nice and relaxing that on the days I didn’t go on a tour. I didn’t find it necessary to leave. This being said I am from Miami so I have access to the beach all the time. Now the staff. Guillermo, the concierge has been my therapist (haha), guide, etc., even before I got here. As a single woman traveling alone people warn you and scare you about going out of the US. Guillermo gave me peace of mind, information about how to pay, what to see where to eat and what tours I should take. He continued to help while I was at the resort. The following are the tours he suggested, and they are a must do while in Tulum. Company - www.mexicokangours.com Tour - The Cenote Adventure Tulum. You can reserve online with a deposit. I suggest paying the balance on the day of the tour in Mexican pesos. If not, they will charge you a 7% fee for paying with a credit card. Make sure you ask for Paloma and Jonathan as your tour guide and driver. Sian Ka’an Deluxe Boat Safari Again, you can reserve online, but I would pay the balance in Mexican pesos. Another great tip from Guillermo. Bring lots of Mexican pesos. Especially for tips and tours and restaurants because they will charge you a fee for using your credit card, even if your credit card has no foreign transaction fee. From the moment I arrived from bellhop the bellhop to reception everyone was so pleasant and welcoming. I want to thank some of the staff at the ground floor restaurant and bar who provided excellent service daily and work so hard. If I forgot someone, I’m sorry you are all amazing. Jesus, Juan, Victor, Jacinto and Daniel. Extra special shout out to Jesus and Juan I saw daily. 🙏😊💗 The food is very good and I think very fairly priced. Drinks are expensive, but you are on vacation so it’s to be expected. If you want to indulge in the spa, it is expensive, but Mari is worth every penny. I can’t count the number of spas, massages, facials I’ve had and she is hands-down the best massage therapist I ever had. I recommend the 80 minute hot stone massage. I did that twice in addition to the collagen facial and body exfoliation. I charged it to the room with my credit card and gave her tip in Mexican pesos. You can also pay in Mexican pesos. I am not one to write reviews, but in this case and for many reasons, I felt it was absolutely necessary and I hope it’s very helpful especially to women traveling alone. Once again, thank you to all of you for this peaceful, gorgeous oasis Tulum. I can’t wait to return!!! 💗 Tina

First of all I have to say that this resort is amazing. It's very quiet and secluded so during the night it's very peaceful. It's a low key family oriented resort that gives a lot of attention to detail. We thoroughly enjoyed the hotel even though stepping foot outside of the resort was just a complete disaster regarding the infrastructure and the ability to walk around or take our bikes out. We did use the bikes everyday and explored the whole area but there's a lot to be desired and said about the dumpy conditions in Mexico. I'm not sure if they understand the concept and purpose of a sidewalk , namely that it should give you a safe and encumbered passage to maybe a restaurant or some other place of interest. The sidewalk department of Mexico needs some new management. Anyway, we loved this resort and would recommend not only this kimpton hotel but any kimpton in the world. On a side note, the bikes are a bunch of clunkers that are not maintained. Maybe buy some new bikes? They need to learn the value of a couple key tools and some grease and lubricant? Or, maintain the bikes better and they'll be much more enjoyable to ride. All the bikes in Mexico seem to be manufactured from the same factory but a little more care in that department would make a big difference. Also, there needs to be some maintenance done on the property that is minor but should not be let go. Also maybe an on-site gardener to beautify all the overgrowth even though it's shady and enjoyable it needs some trimming. It's possible the management is a little bit disconnected with what really needs to be taken care of. Also the surprise resort fees and sewer utility fee, are you kidding me? So they slapped on about $40 per day of extra fees that we were not informed about let me checked in nor when we booked the reservation. Overall the experience was excellent and I guess for Mexico it's still a five-star recommendation that we give. Finally I have to say the staff was amazing!! The guys that work down in the restaurant were genuinely friendly and helpful. I'll have to name our favorite guys was Victor, Jesus, jacinto and Marcelino and all the crew working downstairs and on the rooftop restaurant. The food was delicious from the restaurant and I have to say the staff is your most valuable asset. They all deserve a substantial raise or at least some bonuses. Thank you for the beautiful stay and even though we'll never go back to Mexico we will always stay at a Kimpton wherever we are in the world.

Stayed here in April as a way to use my award redemption. I liked the two pools (rooftop is adult only and has cabana beds, ground floor pool is jungle vibe with pool loungers). The beach bag and beach towel and yoga mat in my room was handy. Water station right when you walk in is nice to hydrate. Hot water available too. No coffee makers in room so this was good substitute. The water fountains in the hallway by the elevators don't seem as good as the lobby water. They give you bottled water in the room so that was nice. They have bikes available for free to ride to the beach and give you a bike lock. I am not that confident of a bike rider and they don't provide helmets so I decided against riding to the beach (I didn't ask for a helmet but it wasn't offered either). Next to the bikes are two ATMs. One dispenses USD, one MXP. It was the right side that had MXP during my stay and it is labeled. This was convenient. The taxis are parked across the street and you definitely have to negotiate with them but I'm from New York City so I'm used to the prices and spoke a little bit of Spanish. It was 200MXP from the ADO bus station in Central Tulum to Kimpton Aluna around 4-5 pm. From Kimpton Aluna to Tulum Ruins 200MXP at 7-8 am for 2 people. Within a 10-15 minute walk there is a shopping mall complex and some eateries (recommend going before the sun sets as the sidewalk is rocky at some points and not well lit). At 20-30 minute walk was the Chedraui supermarket which has a large variety of stuff at good prices. They have two restaurants on site. Ate lunch pool side on our last day after checking out. Food was okay and service was good, but definitely hotel priced, but you're paying for convenience as well. Seems to be a dog friendly hotel.
