Ancestral Jungle Bar — Restaurant in Quintana Roo

CREDIT CARD SCAM by the server/bartenders themselves I wish I could give five stars, because the drinks and ambience were amazing... only problem was our credit card was swapped with a fake/deactivated credit card with the same Amex platinum front, but a different name. This happened right in front of us, while we payed. We told him we were paying credit card (which is when the server saw the type of card we had), and we asked him to bring the handheld device. He brought it and we put the chip in, but he was trying to get the device connected to service I guess, because he was raising it high up. After that, he must've pulled our card out, pocketed it, and handed us the same type of card, but with a random person's name. (I won't provide the picture for that person's privacy).

We know this 100% occurred here because it was the last place we used this credit card before there was a charge the next morning of 9000 MXN (or $500 USD). Fortunately, Amex called us to check this charge, which was definitely not us since we were on our way to the airport to leave Mexico. We did not realize the fake credit card until Amex asked us to confirm the numbers on the back, and that's when we saw it was not ours. This could not have been an accident. I say all this because I see the positive reviews for here, which I wish I could add to, but the managers MUST be aware that this happened, or else this location will become another one of Tulum's trashy and...

We came to this bar every day during our stay in Tulum. The staff is incredibly friendly, the ambience is stellar, and the prices are great! They had a ladies night the Thursday we were there with deals and a dj, and a recurring deal for people staying at the Hilton nextdoor. They were so nice and accommodating, I forgot my water bottle there and they held onto it for me, and the staff would chat with us to help us practice our Spanish during low hours. We even asked if they could do a mezcal flight for us since we saw they had multiple on the menu, and they gave us an off the cuff mezcal tasting experience! Ximena was amazing at leading the tasting giving us history, the manufacturing process, and a homemade chocolate to go with one of the mezcals that I can't stop thinking about! Be sure to ask about it since it wasn't on the menu, the price was incredibly...

Had the best time at this friendly bar! We tried the promo of a burrito and bottomless beer, food was amazing and the beer u get is high quality. Thank you so much to this bar for one of the best experiences on Mexico!! ximena was so friendly and the best host! We got to play our own music which made us feel so welcome and settled.
