I never leave bad reviews but this was a strange experience. My uncle and I had seen this rooftop from the street multiple times and decided to check it out to see if we wanted to make a reservation the next day. We entered the hotel and the hostess greeted us and asked if we had a reservation, to which we responded no and let her know we were interested in seeing the place to see if we’d make a reservation for the following day. The hostess called the upstairs via walkie-talkie and they allowed us to come up. (The whole process was giving United States Secret Service at this point).
Upstairs, a second host greeted us and walked us over to the bar area, to which he then proceeded to tell us we weren’t allowed to walk beyond that point in order to “respect the privacy of their customers” but asked if we wanted to have our picture taken (lol). For context, there were 3 couples there and more than 20 empty tables. Also, this is a bar, not a spa so what privacy? And, how is a taking picture of us with their customers in the background any more private? In order to not have their customers in the background we would’ve had to walk past them, which is what they didn’t want in the first place. Makes no sense, just clearly trying really hard to appear like an exclusive place. Sorry but this isn’t New York City, this is Valladolid and things are a lot more relaxed here. The manager (male, late 50s) didn’t try to smooth things over and continued to justify what the host had said to us. At that point I simply walked away, and my uncle stayed behind to express his disappointment to which the manager dismissed him in a condescending way. I feel bad for the hosts that are being trained to treat potential customers this way. Seems they’d rather have people just take pictures for Instagram and leave without actually purchasing anything rather than actually having paying customers. I would not go back there if...
Read moreThe food is good, but it is overpriced based on the average food price in the town. We are a family with one kid, we stayed in Hotel Meson del Marques at the Christmas night for $101 USD, but we spent $4900 MXP (2 adults and 1 kid) + cost of drinks + tips (close to $300 USD for a dinner of 2 adults and 1 8-year old kid).
When we checked in the hotel during afternoon, the hotel front desk suggested us to make a reservation if we would like to have dinner in the hotel restaurants. It make the impression that the restaurant is very popular and you may not able to have dinner there if you come late without a reservation, which is totally not true.
We walked in the restaurant area in the hotel after check in. It turns out the first floor is for restaurant A and the upper floor is for restaurant B (this restaurant Don Diablo). When we make the dinner reservation, they required us to pay the food cost of $4900 MXP up front to secure it. I thought it might be super good and specialized for the Christmas night. However, we feel disappointed based on the price they charged and the service they provided.
You can take a look the uploaded photos for the price they asked when make the reservation. The left one is for the restaurant Hosteria Del Marques (Adult $1590 MXP, Kid $1290 MXP), the right one is for the restaurant Don Diablo (Adult $1750 MXP, Kid $1400 MXP). We selected Don Diablo because it opens for dinner at 6PM, but the Hosteria Del Marques open for dinner at 8PM, which is too late for us. We traveled from Cancun on that day, which is one hour ahead.
P.S. For the food, it is four-course dinner. The food price is fixed and the the menu is very simple (only have 2-3 options to choose from for...
Read moreOur visit to Terraza Don Diablo was extremely pleasant. The staff there greeted us kindly and led us to our table at the top of the terrace (thanks OpenTable) where we were able to enjoy a phenomenal view of the city, the sky and the sunset.
The restaurant manager welcomed us and spoke to the children and grandmother with great sympathy, with whom he chatted briefly. The comments made at the time of the reservation were taken into account and that provided an excellent evening. The dishes selected were very well presented and exquisite. The reason for our visit to Terraza Don Diablo was to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we were surprised by a very beautiful detail, a dessert specially decorated in relation to our celebration. Thank you all very much!
The service was supreme and provided in a natural way. The waiters were very attentive and the manager was kind enough to escort grandmother down the stairs to the entrance door.
Our experience at Terraza Don Diablo was the best way to start our...
