Had a week stay here and have very mixed feelings about the hotel. I do have to say it was a very cheap break roughly £500/person all inclusive which may explain some of the shortcomings
For the positives, the rooms have been recently refurbished so they were clean and tidy, good bathroom and comfy bed and the air con was good. The quality of some of the furniture isn't great and I would expect it to look very worn in a short amount of time
The bravo entertainment team, the orange guys, had boundless enthusiasm. They engaged with everyone old and young and seemed to have unlimited energy. There was a steady stream of poolside entertainment but they were also equally likely just to stop by and say hello if you were sat in the shade. Great team
The front desk team also displayed a lot of energy, when we arrived they seemed to be running at 200% speed!
The lobby/main bar is a very mixed bag. When we arrived it was very busy and noisy, big queue at the bar. My first gin and tonic was terrible, so flat as to be totally lifeless. We saw 3 cocktails being made which effectively involved haphazardly sloshing random amounts of a few fruit juices over 3 glasses and then waving the spirit bottle back and forth over them. We quickly realised that it probably wasn't the sort of classy bar we had hoped for.
The sports bar was equally baffling. Although it is a sports bar it is often used for other things. When we first visited it there was a disco on, all the TVs were playing some weird spiraling pattern, you literally couldn't hear yourself think let alone have a conversation. On another night we caught it as a sports bar, had a beer, watched some random football match and thought oh ok it's not too bad. Then 11pm hit and loud music came on and a bunch of kids came in and started dancing. Back to being a very odd sports bar. I should also mention that at 11 free alcohol stops. So if you want a drink after that time you need to pay. Odd for all inclusive I thought but also funny watching folks load their tables with booze at 10.45
The poolside bar was the better of the 3, but incredibly random. Your drink might have or not have ice, be strong or weak, flat or fizzy. Overall they need to get the bars better organised and more consistent
Our worst experience of the bars was the main bar. One of the staff collecting glasses dropped a glass and simply walked off. I assumed to get a dustpan but I was wrong. On his next round he simply kicked a couple of the bigger pieces aside and carried on. His next round he just stepped over it. He was more interested in chatting to women than doing his job
The buffet.... Well it didn't start well when we arrived, the flight was delayed so they kept it open late but honestly shouldn't have bothered. There was basically no choice besides the driest chicken you ever had. I asked a staff member where I could find glasses and was told on the table, but they weren't. I ended up grabbing a couple off one of their trays. I know they were kept late and obviously not happy about it but honestly they were so unhelpful
Breakfast wasn't great if you wanted a cooked breakfast. The omelette station was a gauntlet as mine wasn't cooked properly, still raw yolk running out and clear white visible. The bread and pastries were good tho so it was effectively toast for breakfast!
At some I suspect picked up a bout of food poisoning, can't quite work out what it was but possibly the tomato/onion/tuna salad or the rice. Nothing on the buffet generally was that hot so I'd be surprised if I was alone. I'm not much of a complainer so took some meds to keep it in check and got on with the rest of the holiday. Needless to say we didn't eat at the hotel for the rest of our stay
Of special note for the cookery was the lamb tagine where the meat was so overcooked you couldn't get your fork back out of it. The fillet of beef was cooked to death, literally like chewing leather.
Fortunately there are loads of restaurants nearby that are significantly better
The rooms are good but eating/drinking out is...
Read moreAt the Allegro now and due to leave tomorrow morning. Came on my own, first time travelling abroad solo. There are lots of good and not so good points on all holidays and hotels. It depends on what you are looking to get out of it. Positive: Rooms very modern. I had a superior double to myself. Fridge, safe, walk in shower, huge bed, tv, balcony with 2 chairs and table. Staff mostly very friendly and helpful. Food I would say a good average for quality and choice. Entertainment ongoing throughout the day whether you want it or not! I was in block 2 a good walk from reception, not ideal if you have walking difficulties. Negatives No tea making facilities in rooms. No telephone in room. No way of contacting reception if you have any issues with anything and if you struggle with the steps (I've had knee replacements in both knees) the last thing you want is to have to trek all the way back to reception to report any issues. No water in room fridge on arrival. Balcony door didn't lock, or have a lock or shut properly for that matter. Walked around Barefoot as my feet were hot after a long journey and discovered a clump of someone's black hair stuck to my foot, so obviously floors were not cleaned properly from previous guests. Sheets changed on my 2nd day to one that had a dried wee stain on it. Food is average, I've had better, I've had worse. Good selection of salads but the rest was somewhat repetitive. Chips were awful not that I eat chips on holiday but they were thin fries all dried up. Quite a few tagines which you would expect in Morocco, were good. None of the food is hot or barely warm. A microwave is available if you wish to warm it up! Why not just sort out the bain marie's and make the food hot in the first place then no need for the microwave. Coffee is out machines at the back of the dining area one is out of order, one doesn't give you white coffee as that's out of order so lots of ppl queueing for 1 machine. Juice is out a machine also and had to be the worst I've ever had. It's watered down so much it's disgusting. There is fresh squeezed juice smoothies for breakfast but these are very much an acquired taste. Snack bar doesn't give you water!!!!! The snack bar by the pool area I asked for a bottle of water in the afternoon (this was after the dining room had finished service) I was told no If I wanted water I'd have to walk all the way to the lobby bar and then back to the pool. Pool on level 1 Lobby bar level 3. I discovered a short cut to get to my room in block 2. Steps at the back of the pool area, opposite side to the restaurant. But really struggled to get up the first few steps as no handrail and nothing to hold onto anywhere. 3 pools even though Jet2 showed 4 on their advert for the Allegro. Paddling pool for the toddlers. A deep round heated pool with ladder access (no steps) A large unheated freezing cold pool with steps. I didn't swim once in my 4 night stay (paddled in the freezing cold one) I can't get out of pools with ladders due to my knee issues. So as much as I would have liked to have gone for a swim the unheated pool was too cold and very slippery underfoot. The reason I chose this hotel was the easy step access into the pool. The animation team are very friendly but too pushy, some people just want to chill. The music is way toooooooo loud and constantly on with the exception of lunch time. Bang bang bang all day whether you want it or not. No option for a quiet area, or quiet pool where you can chill with no loud music. This was my worst pet hate of the holiday. In my opinion this hotel should be labeled a VIBE hotel as there is no peace. The evening wasn't much better with loud music in the lobby bar. I love music and dancing like most people but when it's so loud it's a bit too much. Very good. Beach 3-5 min walk away. Souk El Had a short taxi ride away costing 20-50 dirhams depending on your haggling skills. Shops, bars, restaurants along the promenade including a McDonald's and KFC This should be a 3* hotel or at a push 3* plus Would I come back....

I’m not really interested in being entertained at hotels, but the entertainment team were brilliant. Tijani & Amin were really pleasant, polite & funny. Music during the day around the pool was to my taste. It’s quite loud so I can see how this wouldn’t suit everyone.
Child friendly hotel. Mixture of ages, quite a lot of older people so not really suitable for young adults.
The bedrooms have been modernised, probably not to the best standard and cheap materials but the room was clean. Dust in those hard to reach places so a thorough clean is needed every so often. A second bin is needed, not just in the bathroom. The building is old and showing clear signs of wear and tear along with the pool area, a lot of cracks and missing brick work. The pink decor is a no no. The pool area toilets need to be renovated.
I had a room under the Theatre (where the evening entertainment is held). The floor levels are quite close so I could hear all the screeching of the chairs and tables being moved. Not a pleasant sound.
The themed nights in the restaurant were a nice touch, but the food was quite repetitive and recycled from the day before but served differently. And the most annoying, the food was barely hot. I had to use the microwave everyday. I was also hoping for more variety of fresh fruit at breakfast. Scramble eggs - horrendous but omelettes made up for it. Vast amount of different salad - lovely Pastries - perfect More tongs are needed for each dish/dessert as people would use 1 for various. More labelling needed as well. None on any of the jams, honey, oils etc, so people were smelling them.
Another downside was that there was no kettle in the room, though I believe this might be standard in Morocco hotels. Lots of British people so gaining a kettle would defo rank up the ratings. Unfortunately, I also encountered a large cockroach in the bathroom, followed by a smaller one the next day, which was unsettling.
Landscape of the gardens are pristine and well looked after and the staff work so so hard. There’s security guards at meal times, I said hello and bye to them daily as they literally just stand there. I’m not sure security are needed but that’s just my view. Management are seen during meal times and they seem so miserable.
I opted for half-board but honestly, I wish I had gone bed and breakfast. There are some great local restaurants around that offered better food and a more enjoyable dining experience. I may stay here again if there’s no other option. When originally looking, this hotel was better on reviews, which is why I...
