Hôtel Tijani — Hotel in Fez

Location: Just outside the walls of the Medina. The entrance to the medina is just a few buildings down, making the location very convenient. A caveat is that Hotel Tijani is located on the opposite side of the medina from the more "touristy" parts like the Blue Gate. But we found this to be a blessing in disguise, it meant that to get to these parts of the medina that we would explore regardless of location, we had to walk through the more local parts of the old city. The atmosphere and people in this part of the medina was entirely different than around the blue gate, and we may not have found ourselves in this part of the city otherwise. Being outside the old city meant that we also had easy access to the streets for the daytrips we had planned from Fes.||||The hotel rooms themselves were to be expected from a two star hotel in Morocco; nothing out of the ordinary in a positive or negative way. However, while in the hotel, we spent most of our time in the seating area located on each floor or in the restaurant downstairs. Breakfast consisted of Moroccan pancakes. The restaurant downstairs provides delicious food (in large portions) which was a lifesaver for evenings coming back late and exhausted after a long daytrip.||||What was special about the hotel was the owner and the staff. Fes is known for its Sufi festival and we found that "Tijani" is the name of a prominent berber Sufi. The owner would play Sufi music in the lobby in the evening which was great to hear and added to the atmosphere. The owner spoke great English and picked us up from our arrival point in Fes and took us to the hotel. AUnrivé pour 3 nuits dans cet hotel que nous avons réservé par booking, l'accueil a été très chaleureux. Habituel thé à la menthe mais aussi jus d'orange offert aux enfants. Nous avons eu le choix entre 2 chambres familiale. ||Le réceptionniste qui fait office de GO nous a rapidement demandé si nous voulions un guide en nous donnant les bons tarifs (150 dhm la demie journée/250 la journée) mais sans plus d'insistance. L'hotel ayant une annexe juste en face, il nous a montré la terrasse et nous a expliqué que cette partie était en cours de finalisation et qu'il y aurait bientôt une piscine. ||En fin d'après midi nous avons profité de celle-ci et nous y avons mangé le soir.||||||Pendant ces trois jours nous avons pris nos petits déjeuners et repas du soir à l'hotel.||Nous sommes repartie tranquillement apres nos trois nuits à Fès.||||Points positifs : ||-Prix de la chambre, 75 € la nuits, petit déjeuner et taxes incluse pour cinq personnes. ||-Amabilité, disponibilité et gentilesse du personnel surtout avec les enfants qui ont été traités comme des rois (surtout la pricesse).||-Petits déjeuners simple mais bon et suffisamment copieux pour nous cinq (choix des boissons chaudes, crêpes, véritable jus d'orange, pain, confiture et même tout exprès pour nous, des pains au chocolat le dimanche matin).||-Une très bonne cuisine pour les plats du soir (felicitations au cuisinièrs pour leurs tajines et le couscous poulet suculent).||-Le night qui a vraiment été charmant et sans aucune arrière pensées jusqu'à notre depart.||-Des petits cadeaux au moments de notre départ. ||-Bonne situation geographique dans le bas de la médina pour qui ne souhaite être pré de ce lieux magique||||Points négatifs :||||-L'hotel est situé a l'entrée de la médina sur un axe très passant ou ce mêle charettes, ânes, passants, voitures, taxis en attentes...||Les chambres familiales donnant sur la rue, le bruit y est très présent de très tôt le matin à très tard le soir le double vitrage européen n'ayant pas court ici.||Les odeurs dans la salle de bain quand la ventillation n'est pas en route.||En trois jours, pas un coup de balai, la poubelle n'a jamais été ||vidée,serviettes jamais changé en clair notre chambre jamais faite.||-Le prix des boissons qui est le double de ce que une grande partie des commerçants et restaurants de la médina pratique.||-10 % de taxes en sus pour les boissons et la restauration non mentionnés sur la carte, donc un supplément non prévu de 120 Dhm sur la facture finale de restauration après trois jours. ||-Le paiement par carte est majoré des 5% mais n'est annoncé qu'au moment du paiement. A mon arrivée j'ai demandé si nous pouvions payer par CB, réponse positive mais sans mentionné ce petit details qui sur ma facture final aurait eu un impacte de plus de 180 Dhm car j'ai finalement payé en liquide pour éviter ces coûts supplémentaires. ||-En payant la facture, des petits cadeaux (charmante intention) pour toute la famille nous ont été offert accompagné d'une envellope vide "pour le personnel" m'a glissé le GO. A 40 ans, je pense que je suis assez grand pour savoir si je veux laissé un pourboire et à qui !!! Surtout que j'ai versé 10 % de service pour la restauration sans en avoir été au préalable averti et que notre chambre n'a jamais été faite; l'enveloppe est donc resté vide.||||Conclusions :||Un petit hotel aux chambres simples mais pratiques qui pour le prix reste très raisonnable sur Fès même si le bruit est dérangeant pour les chambres situées côté rue mais dont la l'entretiens reste néant si on y passe plusieurs nuits. ||Des taxes services et CB qui ne sont pas annoncées à l'arrivée et l'enveloppe vide glissé discrètement nous ont laissé un petit goût amers.||Je suis persuadé que ces certains de ces points peuvent être améliorés.||||Dans l'attente des futurs commentaires de leurs prochains clients.||||En famille avec trois enfants du 10 au...

The Tijani is a pretty typical small local hotel. Rooms are basic but comfortable with a simple traditional breakfast included in the price. Located exactly on the edge of the Medina on a pretty busy street, it provides easy access the historic area of the city as well as Taxi availability to the new city. The owner Badre was welcoming and approachable, as well as eager to resolve any issues that arose during our stay. The restaurant downstairs offered good portions of traditional Moroccan food, and was very reasonably priced compared to some of the Medina restaurants. All the staff were pleasant and helpful, and prompt with service. ||||Our room was basic, with a small street-side balcony and en-suite facilities. The rooms and furnishings were clean, and had air-conditioning/heating. As it was off season for Fez costs were lower and the hotel was quiet, although the restaurant attracted many locals in the evening.
