I recently visited this cafe restaurant in Fes with my family, hoping for a good breakfast spot nearby our riad based on the positive reviews. Sadly, our experience was far from what we expected.
The restaurant was quiet, with only one other couple seated. After we were given the menu, we were surprised by the lack of variety in the breakfast options—only two choices, both extremely basic, consisting of an omelette, bread, olive oil, jam, and a couple of other simple condiments. For a place with such high ratings, we expected a more diverse and authentic breakfast selection, especially considering the local cuisine in Morocco. The prices were also shockingly high compared to what one would typically pay for a more complete Moroccan breakfast.
When I inquired with the owner (who was also serving us) about the type of omelette offered, he said it could be a cheese omelette but offered no flexibility or other options. I asked if they had traditional Moroccan breakfast items such as mlawi, msimin, harsha, or shfinge, to which he replied that they were not available. He then took the menus back to speak to the other couple, who, like us, decided to leave shortly after.
As we prepared to leave, I politely apologized, explaining that we were looking for something different. To my surprise, the owner responded dismissively, saying, “Not a problem, I know it’s too expensive for you and you wouldn’t be able to afford it.” I was shocked by this unprofessional and rude comment, especially since we were nothing but polite.
In summary, this restaurant offered a limited and overpriced menu, lacking both variety and authenticity, with customer service that was, unfortunately, disrespectful and offensive. I’d recommend that tourists looking for an enjoyable, welcoming breakfast experience explore other options. There are many wonderful cafes in Fes that offer delicious food, fair pricing, and a much...
Read moreThis little restaurant run by a modest and very friendly monsieur served us the tastiest of the tajines we enjoyed while within the Fez' Medina. The restaurant, like most in the medina, is a little bit hidden. But the roof terrace is perfect, as it is just a little bit higher than the other terraces so you get a great view. You can find this restaurant when you get in between the Karouiyine mosque and the tanneries. Follow the numerous white signs with blue letters directing you to the 'Rest. Vue Panoramique' and you're sure to find it. After lunch, the owner directed us to the rather hidden herbs&spices shop where he gets his own spices and the gentleman there was a very pleasant and patient man who explained us everything about his spices and then let us peacefully choose our gifts to bring home. Overall great, welcoming experience on our first day in Fez. (and I'm consciously writing this review 4 days later, because I still...
Read moreWhen we arrived, the place looked closed: lights turned off, nobody in the hall. Immediately the owner welcomed us and led us upstairs on the terrace, where we sat as only clients. We had an orange juice, a Moroccan tea and 2 almond pastries. The owner told us a bit about the city and some interesting facts about the mountains around. We had a very relaxing time there, and enjoyed the silence. Unfortunately, when we had to pay, we realized that we should have looked at the menu more carefully. We had 2 more pastries to take away, and the total price was 230 dhr - absolutely overpriced. As a comparison, we paid the same for a dinner of two at the Ruined Garden, which is not exactly the cheapest place in town. Pity - we had a nice time, but left...
