I knew something was fishy when I saw the menu. I noticed the prices are extremely high to be in the middle of the Medina. More on this later. The tables at the top level or terrace are real treat so make an attempt to get there. Narrow walkway up so if you’re volumetrically challenged this might not be for you. The Moroccan salads they bring out (photo attached) are real good and we were almost full by just these. The chicken tajine, lamb tagine and the brochettes we had were all very good.
So basically at the end of the meal I noticed while paying that all the tour guides, including OURS were sitting in the entry hallway. This is a scheme aimed around the tourist, and the reason for the very high prices. We spent roughly 800 MAD / $80 for lunch here but it should have been half that given the area and food quality. I’m sure the guides receive a kickback now that I see similar reviews and noticed it with my own eyes. This would have been a 4 star otherwise. Food is great but the business practice is...
Read moreThis place is the definition of "tourist trap". We made the mistake of letting a "good Samaritan" lead us here for food, swearing up and down that it was "local price, local price". We were led up to the terrace (which admittedly was quite beautiful).
We were then given food menus listing tajine and other Moroccan food for 170 - 220 dirhams (good tajine should not cost more than 90 at the time of this writing).
Recognizing we had probably just been scammed, we decided to just have a coffee and a water and enjoy the view for a few minutes before leaving.
Our 2 small coffees and water ended up costing 75 dirhams which is wildly expensive! Coffee at a restaurant should never be more than 15. If you want a spot full of tourists and a very expensive menu, this is your place. If you want something resembling a local Moroccan experience,...
Read moreOver priced and a very dumpy terrace view don’t help this place. It was only one of a handful of restaurants open in the Medina during Ramadan. Once seated the head waiter kept insisting “ relax take your time , no rush”. The menu has a limited selection all of which come with a Moroccan “salad” made up of 9 separate small bowls. And a fruit salad at the end made up of orange slices topped with strawberries and cinnamon sugar. As we ate a waiter came by and started to remove unfinished bowls of the salad. So much for “taking our time”… we chased him off. The mixed brouchettes had a good charbroiled flavour (although on each skewer one of the cubes was actually a chunk of fat) and lamb tajine was also a good flavour. It’s a long and awkward climb to the rooftop terrace and not worth the effort . For a better experience...
