TERRASSE DE TANNERIE 14 ET 10 — Local services in Fez

I am a photographer and did not have any intention to purchase any product but went to terrace 10 looking to take photographs as I had read it was a good view of the tannery.

I have read about all the scams in Fes with regard to, charging for the mint leaves, requesting of tips and hard sell of leather product so went prepared for this.

I was shown to the balcony by a friendly man who was at the shop door. He gave me a short explanation and after seeing my camera equipment asked if I was there buy leather or just take photos. I explained that I just wanted to see the view. He responded with “no problem, the view is free but do you mind if I go talk to some other customers who may like to purchase something”.

I took photos for over 30 mins and then went to leave. The gentleman waved me goodbye without any attempt to sell me anything. He was extremely grateful for 20dirham tip.

Fantasic that they don't let you force you to anything. Good place to view tanneries.

We actually went and bought something and after haggling with the owner for a bit, he wasn't giving us a price we were happy with so we were happy to leave however he came back and met us with a reasonable price but he was so angry about it, that he shoved the leather jacket in a bag and ran us out the door. It was a crazy experience and honestly put a bad taste in our mouth. It felt like now that we paid he wanted us far gone so he wouldn't have to waste his time with us.
