If you are looking for a cheap place with lots of culture and personality, this is it.||||Pros:||||1. Owner and wife speak excellent English and are available||2. Cheap, cheap, cheap. I spent $235 for:||-19 nights of lodging||-Trip from airport and to my next hotel down in Patan||- About 27-28 meals, filling, tasty, and safe for westerners||- Many bottles of Sprite, Fanta, and Water||- 3 loads of laundry||3. Hot showers||4. Two excellent assistants that also speak English well||||Cons:||||1. Half the toilets don't flush. There is a bucket you fill with water and pour into the bowl. Normally, no big deal, unless to you get a gastrointestinal illness. Then, flushing the toilet while sitting on the pot would be nice.||2. Internet is spotty. There is a cyber cafe down the street for $0.20/hour if you need a long stretch of dependable internet. You can use their computer or use their wifi with your laptop.||||Overall, one of the best hotels in its niche - super cheap and super friendly amongst the hustle and bustle of every day Nepalis.||||Safe Eating:||||1. The hotel kitchen seems to safe. I ate there a lot.||2. Momo's - Turn right out of hotel and go almost to Freak Street. Momo's has a breakfast set I ate about every third day, substituting a bottled Sprite (no glass) for the coffee.||3. Falches Cafe - Turn left on Freak street. About 10 stores up on left. About every third day I ate the Fish and chips (no salad, no salsa, please.) Always had 1 or 2 Americano's. They have good wifi, also.||4. Himalayan Java Cafe - Go past Falches to end of street (another 1.5 blocks.) On corner on second floor. Great coffee and pastries: cheesecake, brownies,...
Read moreI stayed here for a week (literally just left) and I honestly can't praise them enough. The rooms are incredibly cheap and worth every penny, the owners Seriana and JJ are lovely people who made sure I had a wonderful time, Seriana is a kind, caring and strong woman who looked after me when I was vulnerable and went out of her way for me and others many times, often saying we didn't need to thank her. The area downstairs is perfect for meeting new people and having a smoke/drink and getting to know people, nepali and traveller alike. Hope to go back for a bit and enjoy their company and...
Read moreHotel Wanderlust is a very nice and cozy place to stay in Nepal’s capital. The staff is just super friendly and helpful. Everyone is always welcome to join for family dinner and they are more than happy to give you some nice advises and insider tips for Kathmandu/Nepal in general. ||The rooms are clean and all of them have Windows. Also really nice is the location. It’s not in the typical tourist area “Thamel” but in a way more authentic and local area close to Kathmandu Durbar Square....
