Bed and Breakfast 62 are additional rooms offered by the Amistad hotel just a few doors away. The breakfast in the main hotel is really quite good and the staff friendly.||||Bed and Breakfast 62 is an old building with very steep steps leading up to the rooms. That’s not really a problem many stairways are steep in Amsterdam, but the standard of our room was appalling.||||The safe didn’t work. The reception said it hadn’t worked for some time, but not to worry the rooms were safe. I expect they would have been equally uninterested if any of our valuables had gone missing!||||The furniture was old and tatty, there was no bed head even though it shows in the photos but worst of all was the bathroom. Many of the tiles were lose for floor was wet in one corner where a pipe was leaking and they just put a towel down to soak it up. The toilet was in a tight corner and we couldn’t close the door or lift the seat. The sink was built into an old painted wooded cupboard and the paint was all pealing off the top were it had got wet because there is no soap dish. The shower was in a bath that you had to pull a curtain around but was very small and difficult to stand in, at least there was hot water.||||During the night we were bitten by mosquitoes and various other insects. We noticed that there were many dead ones squashed on the walls and asked the hotel reception if they had any fly spray, but they didn’t do anything about.||||The entire room is in desperate need of refurbishment and is a rip off at 159 Euros/night + tax, which they wanted paying in cash in advance on arrival. Although the Amistad hotel rooms may be of a better standard they were all booked during our stay. Avoid Bed and Breakfast 62...
Read moreI can't say enough good things about this hotel.
Yes, it's a boutique hotel, and the rooms are very small. Especially in the single room, the sink, shower and toilet are right next to the bed. But this is understandable if you think of the price and location. It beats other hotels in values.
The location is perfect, not at the centre of the tourist attractions but within 20 mins walking distance. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops around. It is very convenient that I didn't take public transit during my stays.
The best thing about this little hotel is the people who work here and the guests. Mike and Margot are extremely friendly and helpful. They make all of us feel at home by cooking delicious breakfast every morning. The big family-style table on the ground floor is the highlight of the experience. I met some interesting travelers and made great friends here while we had breakfast at this table. We even went to events (aka parties) together during Pride. When traveling solo, meeting like-minded people is important and makes the journey safe and fun. This hotel offers such opportunities to meet new people like in a hostel, but sleep in clean private rooms. We were even talking about having a reunion next year at this hotel with the same guests/friends we just met a few days ago.
I absolutely love this place and the great experience I had in Amsterdam. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. If you like meeting new people/travelers on your trip, this is no doubt the best place.
Thanks Amistad Hotel for everything, we will...
Read moreAfter booking our stay I happened on the couple of reviews on here and feared I may have chosen poorly. Having just returned I would recommend it to friends and family and happily return but with a few words of caution.||||1st the good. ||||The location is fantastic with most tourist attractions being within a 20 minute walk. The host's were very helpful and friendly and provided a lovely breakfast. They recommended several places for lunch and dinner within a stones throw. Including Cafe de Klos which if you likes ribs is a must, but definitely book. Also Cafe Welam and Cafe Morlan which were a 2 minute walk and I'd also highly recommend.||||Now the words of caution.||||You do have to pay cash.||||As with most period properties in the centre of Amsterdam the stairs are incredibly steep and quite tight, though when shown to our room the host volunteered to carry our luggage up.||||You are close to a mixture of Restaurants, cafes, coffee shops and a club but noise was never an issue during our stay.||||The room was very clean the bed comfortable and the room had character but the safe in the room was broken and overall I'd give the room 3/5.||||The setup is a little quirky in that you book in and have breakfast a few doors down at their separate hotel but for us it really did add to its charm and made for a much more memorable stay than your usual generic...
