We are becoming increasingly familiar with Rosewood properties, having just recently stayed in London and in Vienna for our third stay prior to arriving in Amsterdam. I am writing this as we are enjoying our fourth evening prior to tomorrow departure. ||The property itself is stunning. There’s nothing to say beyond that – it is a remarkable achievement in restoration and there is little doubt that this is now the jewel of Amsterdam hotels. And one gets the impression that the staff recognize this great achievement – as they are most proud of the property itself and the city that houses it. If you are seeking luxury accommodations and elevated service, this is where you have to stay.||The location is excellent, with easy access to all important and relevant visitor sites. Nothing was more than a 20 or so minute walk. ||There are staff peppered throughout the hotel. You get the impression that someone is available to assist where ever you may be - should the need arise. It appears to me that they have made a decision that this will be the marquee European Rosewood property. It is a pretty magical place. ||We dined at the property for dinner one evening and had breakfast each morning. The staff were excellent and food was of the highest quality.||It is easy to lose sight of the good fortune that one has to have the opportunity to frequent certain hotel properties. Whether it is Four Seasons in Florence. The Rosewood in Tuscany. Or the Hualalai Four Seasons. These are gifts that very few people are given. Sitting currently in the courtyard of the Rosewood Amsterdam, sipping a drink while listening to music and staring at the walls of a building that was constructed prior to Columbus arrived in America – this is a perfect reflection of such good fortune and gift. I am most grateful. ||I can only say – if you have the opportunity to stay here, please do. It...
Read moreI stayed at the Rosewood Amsterdam from May 13th to 16th. Writing this review is difficult, as my stay started off as a dream but unfortunately ended on a disappointing note.
As someone who travels frequently for business, I’ve had the pleasure of staying in some of the world’s best hotels. In Europe, Rosewood Munich had been my top pick, until I arrived in Amsterdam.
The initial impression was flawless: the spa is stunning, the staff exceptionally well-trained, and the food of the highest standard. Service and attention to detail were truly world class.
Unfortunately, my final day turned into an uncomfortable and annoying experience:
I briefly took a phone call in the spa and was (rightfully) informed that phone use is not allowed. However, there were no visible signs indicating this rule. More frustratingly, I was initially told there was a sign, only to be later told that this was a mistake. The situation was awkward and could have easily been avoided with proper signage and communication.
More concerning was what happened later that evening: There were official warnings in Amsterdam due to a fire, including recommendations to close windows and ventilation systems. Despite repeated requests, hotel staff refused to turn off the central ventilation. I was told over the phone there was “no danger” ...yet when I requested that in writing, it was promised but never sent. Eventually, I was informed the Director of Engineering did not feel comfortable providing a written confirmation, what a joke...
Given the time of night and the external situation, this was entirely unacceptable and unsettling in a hotel of this standard.
Conclusion: Rosewood Amsterdam has immense potential, but in terms of guest communication and crisis response, it has much to learn from Rosewood Munich. Sadly, under these circumstances, I cannot offer a full...
Read moreThis is a new hotel in a historic building that previously housed the courts of justice. The property has been thoughtfully renovated/converted into a luxury hotel property. The staff were gracious and accommodating throughout our stay. The nature of the historic property is that there are stairs in some areas that may not be very handicap friendly, so check with the hotel before booking. Our room was a one bedroom suite with a pleasant view overlooking the courtyard of the restaurant, however there was no disturbing noise. The room was located two steps above the hallway which made room service rather awkward. Two staff members would have to come to car the cart into the room and you could not push the cart into the hallway when you were done, you had to call and wait for staff to retrieve it. The room service was prompt and the food was excellent however.
The living room was large and comfortable with a sectional sofa, tv and bar. The room controls were very automated and didn't require a step learning curve, which was nice.
The bathroom was well appointed with a nice soaking tub and large shower. The toilet is in its own room just outside of the bathroom with a small sink, which was unusual but worked well for a couple.
The bedroom was comfortable with plenty of space to accommodate nightstand items such as phones or jewelry. There was a USB charger built into some of the electrical sockets but it was difficult to see and we ended up buying an adapter.
We had breakfast each morning in the casual dining restaurant. It is not a buffet but has a good menu and the food was excellent as was the staff.
The spa was incredible and the massage treatments we received there were the best we have experienced in our travels.
We will plan to revisit the Rosewood when we return...
