Los Pilones — Restaurant in Amsterdam

This restaurant... had really greater expectations. Food came super fast... Main course same time as the starter everything served at the same time. As we asked the waitress NOT to use, due to an allergy one ingrediend, she basically disregarded our request and brought the meal covered in it . Worse than that the meal she brought came to the table so fast, it just looked like as if you picked it from one of those ready to take meals from Ikea restaurant... Food tasted good no doubt about that however its just overpriced considering what you get. And then we got the feeling we were expected to be gone within 45 minutes to make room for the next batch of people. The waitress was a already cleaning the table and taking away the plates whilst we were still eating and that was just rude. The food was as mentioned good but the small portions will leave you unsatisfied. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't expensive and rushed as it is. Living nearby we spend a lot of time in the nearby bars clubs and restaurants in this street and finally, after long time we decided to have dinner here... oooh the disappointment.. So in the end No... I would not recommend this restaurant. It's a shame because they have the means to make this a pretty good concept. Sadly another typical tourist trap. And after all no matter if you're tourist or local save yourself from disappointment and for the same money take fantastic spareribs in De Klos, restaurant just down the street... they never...

It's a pity that 1 star is the lowest I can go. The worse 100EUR I spent in my life. Average food, priced as a Michelin spot, but that was not the issue. Drinks way too expensive. Below average location, and the outdoor atmosphere is miserable. You'll find a few wooden tables, separated inches apart, uncomfortable wooden chairs. Bordering the street, dust blowing into your eyes and food.

The main waiter that served us (Asun? or similar, average blonde) was either having a bad day, or just didn't like us based on some random characteristic : looks, perceived wealth, above average respectful attitude from our side. Incorrect assumptions, no social skills, no education.

I'm perfectly aware that customer service in Amsterdam is subpar, but this was just a terrible experience, and it ruined what could be a slightly above average dining moment. Every interaction and order was replied with a faint bored reply. Not even stopping by to hear it properly. Food and drinks were dropped at the small table like a cold Uber order. We were cordial, respectful, not playful or flirty at all. We observed the other groups, and all were met with smiles, patiently waiting for orders from everyone.

We are white, wealthy, respectful, individuals, and something triggered this person, clearly not trained to face the public. I confronted her at the end, during the payment process. She reacted with a surprised look, making it even worse by mocking a friendly goodbye gesture.

Avoid...

Finding ourselves hungry on a Saturday night with no reservation we popped into Los Pilones. We were greeted by the warm friendly staff who offered us a seat at the bar while we wait a couple minutes for a table to open up. We ordered our drinks and before the second sip we were seated at our table. The menu isn't too extensive but quality over quantity is definitely working in their favor.

We ordered the Champiqueso as an appetizer and split 2 plates of tacos for our dinner - the Pulpo tacos & Pollo Al Pastor... everything was perfectly delicious, including the homemade warm tortillas.

The champiqueso was yummy and the pollo al pastor delicious. It must be said that the superstar of the night was the PULPO tacos!!! I try to eat octopus whenever humanly possible, but have never thought to put it in a taco, I'm so glad they did! Wow! Nothing is worse than ordering octopus and having it be tough... don't worry Los Pilones does it perfectly!

To complete our dining experience we were offered a complimentary tasting of their homemade tequila (I'm not a tequila fan but it was a classy touch). The staff was proud when we complimented the food.
