My sister and I have stayed here for two nights and would not recommend this hotel. We should have read the other reviews prior to our stay. Unfortunately, the room had not been cleaned prior to our stay. There were various hairs stuck on the bathroom wall, as well as on the ground, coffee tables full of dust and crumbs, cigarette buds lying outside and a table full of bird feces. At around 9 p.m on the first night we had asked the female receptionist on how to use the hairdryer (we didn't know where to turn it on and thought it was defective) and gave her notice about the unhygenic standards of our room to which she reacted quite unfriendly asking us if we'd like a refund or a new room (which she could only offer us the next day) and that for the upcoming night we should just try not to touch the hair. We decided to stay in the room since moving out for one night seemed too much of a hassel and cleaned the hairs off the walls ourselves since we wanted to use the shower. We then wrote the hotel after our stay in order to get a partial refund in which we received yet another very unfriendly reply claming "despite the loud music in your room, that was bothering other hotel guests, you were also helped at the late hour with finding the ON/OFF button at the hairdryer that you claimed defective." My sister and I had not been made aware of the fact that our music was apparently too loud (which we heard with little portable speakers) and that it seemed to be bothering other guests. The hotel trying to avert the refund by compensating the dirt in the room by offering assistance to find an on/off button (assistance for guests should be a given in a hotel) and claming our music was too loud seems a bit absurd. We weren't offered any satisfactory refund but were written that we could stay at the hotel with a 10% discount the next time we visit. No...
Read moreI, along with a group of friends, stayed at The Neighbour's Magnolia and it was a wonderful experience. This having been our first time to Amsterdam, the staff was very helpful with suggestions of things to do, places to eat and which attractions to prioritize. The hotel itself has a wonderful B&B feel with only a handful of rooms, so that you really feel at home. They offer a wonderful light breakfast spread and array of coffee every morning; they have a laundry service for a small fee, should you need it; and they offer many small amenities such as umbrellas for rainy days, bike rentals, free wifi and a programmable safe in the room. They are about a half block away from Tram 2 which connects to Centraal Station and runs directly through the Museum Quarter. The rooms are small and do not have air conditioning, but they do place a small box fan in the room for your use which keeps it comfortable and you will spend most of your time out and about in the city, so the smallness is a minute detail to consider. There are, however, very steep, spiral steps to each floor (there are two flights) to be considered when traveling with the elderly or non-able bodied travelers. I very much enjoyed my stay at The Neighbour's Magnolia, as did my travel companions. If we make it back in the near future, this will be our first choice...
Read moreI didn't booked a room for this hotel, I did for the atlas hotel and they send me here the very moment we arrive. Thanks for not notifying us before, this way we can't say no... That being said the staff was very professional and gentle, offering us the breakfast the day we arrived for the inconvenience. Once arrived at the new hotel (neighbor's magnolia), they indicated that the breakfast was not paid for even if I did paid for it on their own website... Further time spent trying to prove them I did. For the rest, the room was clean and comfortable enough. The only issue was the NOISE ! We are very close to the tramway, it's good for getting in the city quickly but you got the noise all day and night. The walls are thin and the doors slammed all day. We were right next to the laundry room I think and it was some more noise during the day. Plus it's dog friendly (I may have known that if I had reserved for this hotel) and someone left his dog alone to bark one afternoon... Once again the staff was present and professional but they could do very little. Once they managed to reach the owner, they solved the issue.
In conclusion great staff, good breakfast but noisy and not the hotel I paid...
