CARTER — Restaurant in Amsterdam

This is one of the best dining experiences we had in Amsterdam! Carter is located on a picturesque corner of a lovely neighborhood and in a nice evening it's outdoor seating provides a perfect backdrop to it's delicious menu. While known for their whole roasted chicken and fries (intended for 2 to share), a vegetarian can have a most memorable meal here with their roasted eggplant entree. Their drink menu contains some of the finest cocktails we found (like most restaurants in these parts, they have an extensive gin and tonic section). Make sure to try the Carter Platter, a selection of nearly all of the appetizer bites... And I highly recommend the avocado tartare (we started off sharing one, and then ordered 2 more). Carter is a fantastic neighborhood bistro. It was my 1st drink returning to Amsterdam and remains a favorite with friends and family. The food is always delicious, well prepared and the selection creative. We had the classic burger and ribs last night - high quality comfort food. I find the staff at Carter are always hip, friendly, engaging and knowledgeable on food and drink pairings. The place ain’t smug - it’s simple yet classy and down to earth. For me, this makes the dining experience so much more gezellig. This IMHO is how a good neighborhood local bistro should be and of course meeting other cool people. Food was okay (Portobello didn't come with much else and was not really worth the money. The quality of the Portobello wasn't great, the advocado was not ripe yet! and there was no pommes dauphine to be found, sauce was okay). Entrecote was okay. The veggies were still a bit raw (To get timing right isnt easy, but it wasn't great), the Pommes Dauphine was quite tasteless. Service wasn't particularly quick or friendly, just fine. Atmosphere was fine thanks to the wonderful weather. We were however underwhelmed, we will not come back and we will not vouch the place to any of our friends or acquaintances.
