Stolen money from the room safe and lack of cooperation from the hotel:
Hello, I would like to share my negative experience at Joy Hotel, Amsterdam. Even if the receptionists look kind and helpful, they show no support and lack of understanding whatsoever when it comes to helping a guest in need/emergency. The same goes for their manager, who did not even show up when we requested his help. The receptionists were hiding him and rejecting requests to talk to him with the excuse that they do not know his number ?!?! Money was stolen (in the thousands range) from the safe in my room. There was no support or collaboration from the administrative staff in the situation. On the contrary, they kept claiming that I am the only person who knows the code of the safe (hinting that I am lying to them). We requested the help of the manager, and had an appointment to talk to him, but he did not show up at all, which was very disrespectful and disappointing. There was no cooperation from the hotel in the situation! I would like to give an advice to all future guests of the hotel - DO NOT PUT ANY VALUABLE ASSETS IN THE SAFE IN THE ROOM!!! It turned out the safe has a mechanical master key for opening, as well as an electronic master code. The same goes for the lock of the doors - there is also a mastercard and mechanical master key that can open it (for emergency cases). Moreover, there were two cameras in front of the room door, the records of which could have helped me understand who and when went into my room. All of these master keys and codes are part of the manager’s duties, as well as to the authorized people at the hotel. However, as mentioned, none of this information was given to me by the hotel, and they did not cooperate in the situation at all. They did not move their finger to help me find the theft! They counted on the fact that I was going to leave the hotel soon, going back to my country, and that the situation...
Read moreWe chose this hotel because it was a Metro stop from the Ziggo Dome (also of AFAS and the Ajax Stadium), or a walk of around 15/20 minutes. Also it is nearby a train station that takes you to the airport. The area doesn't have a lot of interesting things (lacks restaurants and shops) and unless you need to be in this district, it is not close to the centre. It is also quite dark and lonely at night. However, it was the cheapest hotel that seemed modern/clean in this area, so we went for it. Our room was a twin, had a decent size, a desk, TV, a fridge, a kettle (but just tea available, for coffee you had to pay downstairs), a safe, enough plugs (and close to the beds) and hangers for the clothes. The toilet was quite clean and had a good shower. Also toiletries were included, towels and a hair dryer. Breakfast was 15 Euro per person, so not cheap, but at least it was a buffet, so you had lots of pastries and also bacon, eggs, sausages, cold meats, cheeses, juices, coffee, tea and a lot of different breads. You couldn't find any place for breakfast nearby anyway.||Staff was nice and helpful at the reception desk, no problems. There were construction works outside that started pretty early, so I recommend bringing some earplugs. Also, there was a “weird” note at the lift that warned the customers against bringing prostitutes to the hotel and noting that every guest had to be identified before going upstairs. In summary, not so cheap, but cheaper than most in the area, quite...
Read moreThe hotel is about 20 mins from the centre of Amsterdam with a good regular train service. That's all that's good about it. The rooms didn't get cleaned and were dirty before we even arrived with grit and hair behind the room door. We informed reception, and were advised that something would be done asap. The following day nothing was done plus then, neither the cups from tea/coffee were changed, nor the towels (they are very think and were soaked). We spent a week in this hotel with the exact same ritual on arrival after a day out in the city: go to reception, ask for new cups, ask for coffee, ask for tea, ask for towels when required and showing the dirt piling on the floor. We are mindful and always clean after ourselves but when you feel dirt under your feet and clearly stay in an unclean environment it's not great. The stay wasn't cheap (€152p/night) so we can't say "oh well for the price, you can't expect better" The cooked breakfast was another shocker! Everything was cold!! Whilst it was a nice spread of food, it was so disappointing that nothing was kept warm. Again, breakfast is really quite expensive for what you get. We spoke several times to the reception obviously (they took photos to supposedly excalate to their manager) and even sent multiple emails to the hotel headoffice. To this day, nobody ever aknowledged a single communication, zero care given. They know they will fill their rooms and...
