Very disappointed! Had to pay 6EUR for a two people reservation before I even arrived to the cafe. We came and were seated at a small table with uncomfortable chairs, where a cat would never come to cuddle or say hi. The cafe tries to maximize the space but it shouldnt come at an expense of the actual experience being worse. We waited between 10-15 minutes just to be greeted and given menus, which is quite a long time for a small cafe like that with two people working and most of the other guests already having their coffees and desserts. The prices were pretty high, espresso and cappuccino (4.1EUR) were more expensive than any other cafe on Haarlemmerstraat and I already paid extra for the booking (which is supposed to be for the cats) so I dont understand why I have to pay so much for a cappuccino, where not even the foam is up to normal cappuccino standards. The booking we got lasted one hour, in the hour I touched no cat and no cat looked at me. I know you cant force cats to play and cuddle and there will always be an element of randomness, when it comes to the cats interacting with you. But if you create an environment where in most places to sit, the cats also feel comfortable, it increases the chance of the cats coming closer to the guests. For all the money this cafe charges, they can afford comfy chairs and sofas... To conclude, would not recommend - spent almost 30EUR for bad coffee and average dessert and no cats. There are much better cat cafes than this one, visit those instead.
P.S. only gave 2 starts, because the kitties were really nice and I am happy that someone is taking...
Read moreLovely catcafe where you can sit between the cats and have a nice choice of their menu. I had the affogato and their homemade bananabread, which were delicious. The staff is very friendly and make time for their customers. You are aloud to walk around the cafe, to meet and sit with the cats (if they want too off course) and cuddle and play with them. The cafe has a nice living room feel to it, so it’s easy to feel right at home. I really recommend this place and I will go back again! If you want to make sure there’s a spot for you in the cafe, I recommend you make reservations beforehand and choose a day and timeslot, otherwise chances are big they are fully booked for the day allready, or you have to be lucky they have a spot left if you decide to go without reservations. And if you are lucky, you will be sitting with one of the cats on your lap for a long time! My only point of attention would be with young children in the cafe. The young child that came in with his mother who didn’t mind her child at all was chasing one of the cats, which was not amusing for the cat. If you bring a young child to a cat cafe, please mind your child and don’t leave that up to me, another customer and let them respectfully handle the cats. I can imagine this can be a difficult thing for the staff to handle, but a little more strictness in this would not hurt. Lovely place and...
Read moreSophie KattenCafe was an unexpected, and very relaxing, surprise! We made a reservation for our party - actually arrived a little early - and found an open table for the five of us.
It was fun to see the people finding ways to play with the cats. There were around ten humans in the cafe and all of them were trying different things to get the cats' undivided attention.
When I went to a cat cafe in Tokyo it was early and I was the only one up on the second floor with the cats. Cats being cats, not all of them came over to play, but I was lucky that three or four of them did.
At Sophie KattenCafe, it was a lot more fun getting to share the experience with the other patrons.
The food was good and the owners were super friendly and chill. How could you not be with all the cat vibes...
