This hotel is a gem! Centrally located, across the road from the Chch Town Hall and about 250 - 400 metres (2-3 minute walk) door to door to the Chch Casino.
With a unique leafy centre Atrium complete with fountain (unfilled during our visit) within and the hotel rooms surrounding the peremeter there is an ambiance of Italian inspired serenity.
We scored a great deal with a 2 bed apartment (Super King in one room, Queen in other, and we believe pull out Sofabed), complete with full kitchen, living, dining areas and built in laundry, plus two balconies-for under $150.00. Some areas of the decor (paint touch ups on walls) appeared tired and/or in midst of upgrading, but we loved the linens and window coverings.
Overall we found all the staff to be very friendly, including those who worked in the (leased?) adjoining restaurant, which serves breakfast options from 06:30 am.
Note: there is undercover parking within the hotel for just over 50 vehicles at an extra cost of $10 (per day, or 24 hr period). If full due to late arrival, the Hotel Reception will organise alternative parking outside (nearby) for same cost. We were pleased that a staff member called us a day ahead to check our time of arrival so that a parking space was anticipated to be available for us, since we arrived as planned before 4pm. 'Romeo' was especially helpful.
In general, we would highly recommend this accommodation, especially for anyone who plans to stay for central city events or attractions (Town Hall/James Hay Theatre, Art Gallery, Riverside Market, Casino, Botanic Gardens, etc.) and/or day walks or tours, without need for...
Read moreOverall a great stay at the Fino Hotel. Easy to find, and helpful attentive service at the front desk. Plenty of parking underneath, access by swipe card. Room was on the sixth floor. Cool atrium in the centre with a large water feature. Our apartment had 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a large kitchen and lounge. Nice views from the balcony out over the city towards the Southern Alps. Kitchen was lacking in certain bits and pieces, only 2 mugs! Also 4 pottles of UHT milk was not really enough. Few marks and stuff on the walls that could do with some attention, but pretty easy to look past. Playstation 4 so we could watch DVDs. Only freeview TV with 2 addition SKY channels. Beds were super comfortable, with good quality linen. Didn't hear any building or traffic noise.
Biggest gripe of all however was the shower. It was terrible!!!!!! Had it at the hottest it could go, and it was warm at best! And the pressure was pathetic!. Was really really disappointing. Felt colder getting out of the shower then i did hoping in. Does need to be addressed, but overall a great place to...
Read moreThe room was not cleaned well. The bench top had sticky blobs of something that had not been wiped down, one bed had nearly a packets worth of cigarettes underneath, the other bed had a heap of opened sugar packets and rubbish under it, and the windows were dirty, which spoiled what would otherwise have been a beautiful view of the mountains. The fittings were worn and failing eg. toilet seat, light switches, and curtain holders. Both our access cards needed revalidating after less than 12 hours meaning we were locked out of the car park and room. Access to the car park is frustrating and there is no off-street parking to book in or wait to gain access to park. Coffee was instant only. The restaurant only offers breakfast and there is nowhere to buy food (other than an overpriced and poorly stocked convenience store) within a 10 block radius to prepare in the suites. This is a 3 star...
