We booked this place as part of our tiki tour through the lower North Island. The room was not particularly clean, the bedding stained in parts and the coverings were musty. We felt somewhat uncomfortable staying here. We tried to book elsewhere after viewing the room. It was too late at night so we had no choice but to stay.||The room was somewhat tired looking and the bathroom not to our taste. The bathroom had a spa bath but unfortunately this doubled as a shower and consequently water spilled all over the floor whenever you had shower due to their being no curtain or shower doors.||As this is a boutique hotel each room has its own individual flavour. The overall look and feel is one of old english combined with new. However, as with all hotels and particularly ones that lean towards that English country setting you need to keep on top of the cleaning and maintenance otherwise it gets musty and dusty suer quick which is what happened here.||Overall it came across as a bit dark and dreary. I am sure in its day it would have been amazing. Time for a mini revamp.||We wouldn’t...
Read moreThe Nice Hotel is more than 100 years old and diagonally across the road from the oldest stone church in NZ. So some pretty good history to get in to. We were in the St Mary’s room on the front corner looking across to the church . The room sloped downwards somewhat disconcertingly but we were assure by Terry the owner it hadn’t moved in the 40 years he’s been there. Well appointed , large comfortable bed, good bathroom , a stack of art books to browse and a little library nook outside the room should more be needed. |We dined in the restaurant one night , great service and a good meal. |We also took the breakfast option which was served ( and cooked ) by Terry. A touch of theatre which was accidental i suspect but added to the quirky vibe. |There are only a few rooms, the bar and lounge are stacked with collectibles and antiques and staying in The Nice Hotel is an experience beyond...

I recently had a stay at the Nice Hotel in New Plymouth, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Upon arriving, I discovered among other things the TV in my room was not functioning as stated in advertisement a bad smell from restaurant under the hotel. Despite reporting the issue, the hotel staff not only failed to provide a solution but also made the surprising decision to ask me to leave without any explanation or alternative arrangements.
This lack of resolution and the abrupt eviction left me deeply disappointed. I believe it's crucial for guests to receive the service they expect, especially in a reputed establishment like Nice Hotel. I hope this feedback prompts the necessary improvements to staff and amenities and ensures a more positive experience for future...
