Fox Glacier Jade Hotel — Hotel in South Island

Absolute trash. Not a hotel, but a terrible hostel. Impossible to feel comfortable.

Booked what appeared to be a basic but nice hotel room. Was given the key to a dirty, stinky room with none of the promised amenities (i.e. balcony, TV, fridge, kettle). The Receptionist spoke poor English, took 15 minutes to admit they made a mistake, and did not have the room I booked available. To their credit they refunded 20%, although I wouldn't have paid 20% less to sleep in the room they gave us. They also offered a full refund but I couldn't find another place in town with a vacancy.

The place was filthy. Bathroom was not cleaned. There were beard trimmings on the sink, stains throughout the shower and toilet, mould in bathroom, and a strange mouldy smell in the whole building. Bed is uncomfortable, dust comes out of the curtains when you open them, and plenty of cobwebs. It feels like an unfinished building site, there's patches of carpet and lino missing, and the doors aren't painted at all.

My room was right next to the communal kitchen, and the building is made of wood, so a lot of noise with people walking around, well past midnight. This is despite the hostel's rule that the kitchen is closed after 10pm. The kitchen is feral: it has a small amount of cutlery and cooking utensils, and you have to pay $5 to rent a bowl. People hadn't cleaned up after themselves and they had run out of diswashing liquid.

Wifi is good. Shower is hot and has good...

I was very disappointed with my stay at the jade fox glacier hotel. Our room did not have any toilet paper, towels or bath Matt. The shower leaked and flooded the bathroom and we had to use our own towels to dry the floor. The key stuck in the door and I could not find a single contact number to ask for assistance or help. When I came down to ask for toilet paper last night and again this morning I could not find anyone to help me. Both times I used the walky talky provided but no one answered. It is advertised online that there is room service at this hotel, but this is not true and the building itself is old, run down and dirty. This is the worst experience I have had in any hotel or hostel accomodation and I will not...

Hi all, so if you want some advice... Stay anywhere BUT here....

Quite literally the worst accommodation I've ever had the misfortune to stay in.

Mould, broken railings, it's completely run down, the staff don't speak English and do not return calls or emails, the bathroom was so tiny that you needed to be a gymnast to align your self on the commode... The bed was an exercise in pain disguised as a bed...

We had booked for two nights and would have actually left before we completed the first night if a choice had been available.

Take my advice, even if there is an apocalypse......
