Mountain Helicopters Fox Glacier — Local services in South Island

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! Having a professional career myself involving customer service I was left HORRIFIED by my experience with the owners of this business!! Of course once you get in the air, the views are stunning. However the process of getting there was one of Extreme Rudeness, Chaos and Insults. There are 2 other Helicopter services in Fox Glacier and I highly recommend them instead!! Mountain Helicopters has a kiosk and advertise that they do flights from Franz Josef as well as Fox Glacier but I learnt the hard way, all their helicopters are located in Fox Glacier. They will ask you to drive to them in Fox Glacier (1 hour return trip) and that’s not a guarantee your flight will happen, due to the needed number of passengers and weather. They also pretend to be a volunteer information centre to get customers in the door but if you’re not interested in a flight they have no time for you, will cut you off, speak over you and basically kick you out the door. While waiting for our flight on multiple occasions I heard them utter racist and rude comments about people coming into the office, As well as speak down to their staff in a belittling and demeaning way. My wife and I took a flight with mountain helicopters while holidaying in NZ. Before we booked I was a little apprehensive as I'm not normally a fan of flying however I decided to give it a go and I'm so glad I did. The confidence and skill of Michael the pilot really put me at ease and allowed me to relax and really enjoy every minute of the flight ( something I never thought I would ). The kiwi family that own and run this business are from memory 3rd or 4th generation in fox glacier so their knowledge of the area and its history really is second to none. Therese who booked us in not only made us feel very welcome from the start, but also shared local information on things and places we should go and see while campervaning through NZ. This family/business made us feel important not just a number and I could tell they were proud to show us some of the best views we might ever see. So I'd like to give a huge thankyou to Therese, Michael and there son for making our holiday so much more memorable. If your thinking of taking a flight to fox glacier,Mt Cook or Franz Josef go see these guys to book, they will make it a personal experience not a big business tourist type of experience. I'd thoroughly recommend this organisation for a professional, safe and welcoming experience. My friend and I travelled to Fox Glacier when some very bad weather was approaching, we had a flight booked for the Friday but as we were due to arrive Thursday late afternoon Therese stayed in contact with us, actually kept the business open and Michael was able to take us up in the helicopter to see the glacier for 10 minutes. Nothing could have flown on the Friday so we are eternally grateful to Therese and Michael for all the effort they went to to ensure we saw the Glacier. The road south ended up being closed the day we were supposed to leave and Therese looked after us, ran us around, took us to Lake Matheson for a walk etc - simply amazing hospitality!!!!! We still couldn't get out of Fox Glacier by the Sunday and we were then able to buy a flight with Michael to Wanaka which was one of the best experiences of my life!
