The Helicopter Line Fox Glacier — Local services in South Island

As a solo traveller i found it hard to book a helicopter tour, from the moment i enquired about possibly going on a tour the person who answered my call was nothing but helpful.

Managed to find me a spot last minute, i couldn’t have asked for a better day weather wise.

The pilot was amazing, very knowledgable and we had plenty of time on the glacier to take photos and bask in the beautiful scenery.

Also the man who checked us in, drove us to the launching site and gave the safety briefing was fantastic and kind.

I hope to come back again and do the longer flight

If you’re in Fox Glacier (or Franz Josef) you HAVE to do a helicopter flyby and landing on the glacier! Whatever you think it will be, it’s much much more! The flights are really smooth, and the pilots give you useful information all through! The ground staff are very helpful and precise with their briefings and information. Do remember that the weather is not in anybody’s control, so do what we did - plan on driving in by afternoon, book an evening fight and stay over for an option of a morning flight if the evening one gets cancelled because of bad weather (like ours did). I had an absolute blast with the helicopter flight up Fox Glacier. It has got to be one of the most beautiful sights you will ever see, being on top of the glaciers and walking around on top of thick snow. The staff (including the pilots) are excellent, and answer any questions that you may have about the glaciers and how they were formed, what the conditions are up there etc. I definitely recommend doing this if you have the chance because you will truly enjoy it.
