By far the worst hotel/hostel we have ever stayed. We were in pods (8 share) and the actual pods were fine. It was the general spaces provided. - The bathrooms were disgusting. Only 1 working female toilet on our floor, one sink and 4 showers that SHARED A DRAIN. This meant that if someone was having a shower in the next stall, it went into a puddle in your stall before going down the drain. Simply incredibly unhygienic. They were clearly not cleaned regularly enough nor supplied towels, soap, anything. They did not even have a rack or shelf to store your belongings. Towards the end of our stay there was vomit on the carpet outside of the bathrooms that was never cleaned. - The rooms were tiny. They did not provide enough space to store 8 people’s suitcases/bags. Small lockers are provided which sit under the beds. Some of which didn’t work and my sister was ELECTROCUTED when unlocking her locker. This resulted in an electrical burn on her finger which staff did not care about. Many of the pods electricity did not work (yes the room key was in the socket). Not enough space AT ALL for 4 people. The general hotel was clearly needing maintenance. There was a huge hole in the adjoining wall to our room which we had to hear the drilling and whirring of construction on 2 days. The vents in our room were so big you could see the hallway (see photo). Therefor sound travelled immensely, including the sound of the exit door which beeped continuously. And when someone went through the door it would slam so hard our beds shook. This was by far the worst place I’ve ever stayed, and I am well travelled. Low maintenance, general failure of safety and hygiene and an inhumane way to stay. The only positive- the location.

Whilst I was immediately impressed by the digital self check-in kiosks, that was immediately tampered when we got to the room and realised ... Wait a minute, there's no fridge, countertops in bathroom, seats, nothing besides a bed that's literally walled in on 3 sides, a bedside table, a TV, and the sink-toilet-shower bathroom all in the size of a large walk-in closet almost?! This isn't a hotel! It dawned on us right then that this was actually a backpacker hostel-hotel rather than a modern Yotel-like hotel that we've stayed in in other countries. It wasn't advertised as a backpackers where we'd have to share everything in the communal kitchens and stuff. Granted, we only booked this place the night before as we don't know where our roadtrip will take us, but really wished we paid just a tiny bit more for another hotel that'd actually have a full amenity hotel room with at least a fridge since the communal fridge and kitchen one floor down was full up of people's things and people themselves. We instead opted for going up to the 4th floor bar to ask for cups of ice to chill the drinks we bought. However, instead of only the negatives, this was without a doubt the CLEANEST room, firmest bed, and bathroom we've had all week as we tour the South Island, but the other missed comforts can quickly dampen that experience. PS: if you've got a car, your best bet for overnight parking is quickly trying to find a spot at the park across the street after 6pm when free til 8am, but then expect to get up at 8 to go pay for another 2 hrs til 10am checkout!

A very interesting and different experience from normal hotels. There are private rooms as well as shared rooms. The private rooms have their private bathrooms which is recommended if you’re staying for more than a few days and would like to be comfortable or have important valuables. The shared pod rooms include a sleeping area, either on the top or bottom, and have an assigned locker which can comfortably fit a large suitcase and backpack. There were some issues with the locks, however most of them worked with your own pin that you can put. These shared pods are accessed by a room key card which is also used to power your individual light and fan in the pod. The pod itself is comfortable for an average sized person. There is a usb port, light, fan, mirror, and blinds for privacy. There is also a headrest which is great. The shared bathrooms are on nearly every floor, and include toilets, showers and sinks. There are also used towels and clean towel baskets, however these bathrooms get dirty quite quickly. There are also individual bathrooms and showers but they are usually occupied depending on the time of day. There are stairs and lifts, with a restaurant and common room at the top floor with games and a pool table. There is also laundry services for washing and drying, has hairdryers and other accessories. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Great location and close to the restaurants and attractions. Overall a good experience, can be fun with people you are familiar with.

The location was the best part for us. It was very central in Queenstown and surrounded with many good restaurants, bars and shops. If you are planning on skiing or doing an excursion there are many pick up spots and tour operators near the hostel as well. The room was a good spot to sleep. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was clean and they provided a nice small space heater to keep the room warm if needed. We didn't have any body wash on our first night in the shower, we reported to the front desk and they gave us a couple of bars and we were told that they would replace in the morning but when we came back it was unfortunately not replaced but we did get another small bar of soap. The remote in the room was disgusting and covered in what I imagine was at one point part of some good fried chicken or possibly pizza but everything else seemed to be fine.Check in was a little tricky because there is self check in/check out tablets at the entrance. We couldn't figure out the right combination of booking reference number and name because we had received Jucy's confirmation code in a separate email. The attendant did offer to help us out but we got the right combo at that very moment. You can pick your cards to activate them and we had no issues with this part but later that evening my card deactivated and I went to the front desk a second time to get it working on our first night. The hotel has some very good signage and arrows to tell you where your rooms are and the amenities (rooftop bar/restaurant, laundry room and kitchen area). The hotel seems to be more of a party hotel and when we arrived there was lots of drinking and people having a good time. This went well into the night and the noise seemed to travel well down the hallway from the rooms that were hosting. We could also hear our neighbour coming and going throughout the first night but it was relatively quiet between 12-6.We picked this hostel for the location and to save a little bit of money for excursions. It did get very busy in our area the first night we were there but after that we had no issues with the traffic. It was a 15 minute ride to the airport in the Uber and the bus stops at the nearby Stanley St bus hub and only takes about 25 minutes to go to/from the airport with...

I stayed in a private queen ensuite room as a solo traveller in August.

Pros: Bed was comfy, shower was good with hot water, location = perfect for snowboarding (bus stop to mountains 2 min walk away, close to the shops, food places, etc). Good to be so central being a solo traveller. Luggage storage under bed (which also fits a 160cm snowboard bag). Hot water dispenser thing in kitchen for making your tea. The bar on the top floor does awesome hot chocolates for a good price. Room was clean. Staff would reply to emails within a day or two when I had queries before arriving. No noise issues and I was on the same floor as the bar - there was a door to shut on the hallway so makes 2 doors between your room and the bar. Quick check-in as you can do it on an I-Pad and skip waiting in line for a person to check you in.

Cons: the heater in the room is just a tiny plug in one and I actually kept getting a blood nose in the mornings from it (I don't usually get these) I think because it's such dry air and the best place to put it to warm the room is on top of the table so it's facing your face all night. Would have been nice to have a better heater. But it did warm the room at least. Room is very cold without heater on though so it's necessary to have on. Room is quite small! It was perfect for me solo travelling, but if my partner came, I think we would have found it too squishy. Asked reception for a second doona and they had ran out (seems like they should have more extras or somehow increase the overall heating if this is happening). The next day I asked again and a second doona was available. No fan in bathroom - feel like the bathmat would have dried better with a fan. Room needs a deep clean like wiping down of the bed frame etc.

Other comments: Staff were nice. Bring warm trackies and thermals to sleep in as even with the heater I found i needed to be wearing warm clothes at night. I would stay again, the only thing that makes me think maybe I wouldn't is the heater causing nose issues (i have not had this issue with other kinds of heaters). But yeah it's modern, clean, feels safe and has everything you need :) I would give it 5 stars (if I ignore the heater issue) as it met my needs...

This place has the potential to be a great hostel. Great location, great concept. I stayed at the lylo in auckland and had high hopes. Immediately after checking in i could see i was so wrong.

Facilities wise, it was sadly different. Alot of the fun perks Auckland had, Queenstown did not. And thats okay! Obviously not something they can help. However, it needs a facelift.

The kitchen was too small for the amount of pods they have. It was hard to fit food into the fridges filled with rotting food.

They advertise rooftop bar that hasnt opened yet, which again is nit something they can help, but then proceeds to say no alcohol can be drunk in the building. Being in a ski town this be a big thing for some people.

In the common area there is a projector that plays ads on a screen. When asked if there was something that could be out on i was told it just plays random stuff Would be nice if they had the option for people to come in and maybe pick something so people could gravitate and share watching something together.

The bathrooms were filthy. Thick grime, rubbish, hair, dust, looked as though it had been sat left uncleaned for days.

The worst part is the ventilation. Oh my goodness. I felt like the oxygen levels were actually low. There is only a heater option in the rooms and no aircon or windows, despite advertising this. That was actually a huge reason i chose lylo, for the pod aircon. But no. Not even aircon in the room let alone the pod. I felt like i was suffocating and when i went to ask the staff how to turn on the advertised aircon, the poor guy had to tell me there was no aircon and it was only in the halls.

After reading so many reviews there seems to be a common reply - telling customers they have rebranded and there have been changes. There haven’t.

I have one night left and I don't think I’ll be able to push through. Im incredibly...
