Red Rock Bar Cafe — Restaurant in South Island

The atmosphere seemed great, funky cool vibes within the bar, was excited to check out the place. Unfortunately, the owner is a cold, nasty, rude balding man who likes to pick on women. The other bartenders were very nice, respectful, and understanding, it is a shame his boss is an angry coward. Within two minutes of sitting down and waiting for a friend to return from the bathroom before we ordered our drinks, the owner was glaring at us. After I simply took a sip of a water bottle (which was just water), we were approached in an aggressive manner and told to move on, he interrupted us multiple times and then walked away whilst we tried to speak. Unfortunately, I then pushed my luck and ordered their ‘Salt & Pepper Squid’ - the fact that it arrived in less than 5 minutes was a red flag !!! I was presented with a plate of rock solid, badly over-cooked, little ‘nuggets’ of nondescript material. Frankly, for a bar so close to the ocean to serve what were clearly frozen ‘bites’ is an huge embarrassment. I suggest one of their management team take a drive over to the ‘Lake Bar’ in Wanaka (which is inland!) and see how ‘Salt & Pepper Squid’ should be made...

Terrible experience due to a certain worker who had clearly woken up on the wrong side of the bed!!! I didn’t realise that bringing in a bottle of Powerade warranted an almighty spray. Despite my best efforts to apologise I was met with further rage. The worker went so far as to call me a “f**ng loser.” I was shocked by this and now feel terrible. This ruined my day and my entire experience in New Zealand. Hopefully this worker can find his peace and grow a heart. If I could give 0...
