I came for pies and coffee, and got eyerolls and attitude. I'd go to the bakery across the street from now and forever more, better prices, WAY better service and pies just as good.
I was in line to pickup breakfast early one morning and was waiting patiently in line for my turn, only to be rudely told by the cashier that someone who'd arrived after me should have been first - mornings are always a bit hectic here and this morning was no different, a customer ahead of me couldn't decide what they wanted, going back and forth between the counters, one of the usual two cashiers was busy building a display basket, and people were funneling into the store, cutting across lines to look at the display and the menu on the wall.
The cashier who scowled at me was the same basket builder, and she had walked right past me to put on the display before returning to the till. It was a short simple exchange, where she wrongly assumed, and I clarified with her and the other customer too, but still, the attitude was palpable as she then gestured and said it was "okay" for me to go first. Implying what? That I'd cut the queue? How about an "I'm sorry, I made a mistake" instead? Manners cost nothing, but this time it's cost you a returning customer, and a lousy review.
It's busy I get it, but if you're too busy to notice, then trust your customers to manage the line and not try to enforce your unjust idea of authority upon returning to your "throne". I hope the cashier in question sees this, but it's a popular place and really this review will probably just get lost, amidst the flood of tourists, seasonal workers and visitors coming to get a taste of the ferg. At the end of the day, the stuffs good, but it's STILL just a pie, and it's STILL...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRude staff!! However, great pies & decent pastries. Fergbaker is a must stop. My friend tried their pastries (a tart and a cream donut) and she loved both. So recommend this place for a sweet treat. Secondly, the pies are phenomenal, I wish I tried this place the first day I was in Queenstown. I wouldāve bought one everyday in all honesty. Crispy, fresh, hot. Delicious!! š However, I must say the staff at FergBaker are quite rude. They give off some bad energy, theyāre short with you and unfriendly. I went twice and was served by the same girl both times who either really hates her job or really didnāt like me. Iāve never encountered a āserviceā quite as rude. Seriously wanted to snatch my money back and take my business elsewhere. But not like theyād care anyway though and I really wanted another delicious pie. The three young women behind the counter were also talking, looking and snickering in hushed voices while my girlfriends & I ate our pies in the empty store. I felt there was no need for the rudeness or them clearly judging and talking about us. I was patient, polite and efficient in ordering and paying. Let alone we were just a group of three and went outside of busy hours. It put a bad taste on the experience and why Iāve left this review. Maybe management or the women themselves will see this and think about how they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Ferg chain has expanded out to a bakery which is next to its most famous sibling, the Fergburger.
Fergbaker serves freshly baked pies, breads and a variety of sweet pastries and treats. We came here for lunch and couldnāt resist getting one of the pies. I had the lamb pie which was amazing. The pie had tender lamb shank chunks in tasty gravy. The pie pastry was extremely light and didnāt feel heavy at all.
We were also tempted to try the sausage roll, there were no regrets ordering this. The meat filling was a mixture of pork belly and mince and was well seasoned with fennel seeds.
And we enjoyed the bakery so much we cam back a second day for lunch. I really wanted to try one of their specials. Chicken pie with mustard, cheese and Chardonnay. I donāt normally order chicken pies but this one I had no regrets. It was a beautiful, creamy filled pie which was so comforting to eat. Again, the pastry was crispy, light and flakey.
The queue to Fergbaker isnāt nearly as long as the Fergburger queue and I think the pastries here at just as good as the burgers. The bakery surely gets the overflow of the burger clientele who are too hungry to wait. With pastries this good, there is no...
