Highly impressed with my stay at the Scenic Hotel in Blenheim. I remember staying here close to 10 years ago, and have stayed many times at other Scenic and Heartland properties across the Country.
I got a Bed and Breakfast Package for a very sharp rate for the dates of my stay, booked roughly a week in advance. On the morning of my Check Out, I had a look online to see what it would cost to extend my stay. Unfortunately for the same room type, the price had increased over twice as much.
The Scenic Hotel in Blenheim is in a perfect location, directly across from Seymour Square. Walking distance to town, with its restaurants, Supermarkets, and shopping. Also to the lovely walk along the Riverbank. Parking is free, although very limited on the Hotel property itself. However, there is heaps of parking across the road at the Church. All you need to do is place a provided Hotel Business Card on your dashboard.
Friendly Service from the guy at Check In, cheerful and efficient. Good information regarding the Hotels on-site Restaurant, Breakfast, Parking ect. I didn't receive a WiFi Code at Check In, more fool me, as I kept forgetting to ask everytime I came or went.
My room was on the top floor (Level 3). Access is by way of Stairs, or there is a Elevator as well. The rooms are very well appointed, with modern, comfortable furnishings. Large King Bed, with a lovely, soft pillow top Mattress. Quality and clean linens on the bed and in the bathroom. The Shower in the Bathroom had really awesome pressure, with plenty of Soaps and Shampoos ect. My only complaint about the room was there were no Rubbish Bags in any of the Bins, and it didn't look like it had been vacuumed very well. Small things really.
How awesome it was to have windows that actually opened! And not just a slither either, but a decent way. Fresh air from a open window in a Hotel is rare, and so appreciated. Automatic Black-out Velux Blinds on the windows made the room dark enough for sleeping, even in the middle of the day! If there were other guests staying on my floor, I would not have known it. It was all very quiet.
I loved that the room had its own individual, ceiling mounted Air Conditioning unit. Easy to adjust the Temperature ect. via a Control Panel on the Wall. Too many Hotels have Controlled Air that is either far to Hot, or far to Cold.
The TV in the room only had a handful of channels. There was also a Mini Bar under the bench as well. The Hotel Complex also has a Swimming Pool out front, and a Spa as well apparently.
Breakfast the next morning down at the Restaurant was by way of a set Menu - no greasy hotel buffets here. I got the Full Cooked Option which was excellent. It would have been nice to have a Drinks Station to help yourself too, instead of bothering the Attendant when I wanted another Juice or Tea.
Unfortunately on Check Out there was no one at Reception, despite waiting several minutes. I could hear the phone ringing and ringing. Running late for a flight, I ended up having to put the key over the counter and dashing off.
So all in all, a really good stay at the Scenic Hotel Marlborough. For the price paid, it represented really good value for money. Along with all the other Scenic/Heartland Hotel properties I have stayed at, I will not hesitate to...
Read moreThis is one of the most pleasant stays in the last month in NZ but with one issue! Slightly dated hotel but very well maintained and clean. Efforts to modernize the rooms give a pleasant feel. Staff overall were excellent with a genuine friendly manner, not false like with many large chain hotels. Food was good, restaurant pleasant. Only one issue with the stay. The fire alarm went off at 1am with the hotel, quite rightly, fully evacuated for 30+ minutes and fire brigade turning up. Turned out that the alarm panel was faulty according to staff. As this was not the fault of a guest and down to the hotel, I expected at least some sort of mention the next morning or at check out. But nothing.... No note under the door as I have experienced elsewhere in similar circumstances, no apology at check out even when it was mentioned by us. An apology and even some sort of small credit for breakfast or a coffee might help to soften the inconvenience which was fairly dramatic on a one night stay......
Read moreHad a lovely stay at Scenic Hotel Marlborough to end off our trip in New Zealand. The hotel room was much bigger than our previous hotel stays, where we could comfortably open both our large-sized luggage to repack. Apart from the spacious rooms, we love how clean the toilets were and how tidy our rooms are done up by room service each time we return from our day out. The stand out however, was the service provided to us by the staff. We arrived around midnight as we had a long drive from Fox Glacier to get here but the staff was ever ready to receive us, and even gave us recommendations on what to visit around Marlborough during our stay. During our stay, there were occasions where we opted to buy food back to enjoy in our hotel room and the room service was readily available to provide us whatever we needed to have a lovely meal in, including plates, wine glasses and even condiments. Highly...
