It's a roof over your head, but that's about it honestly.
Everything is falling apart inside, paint and wall paper is pealing of the walls, the shower rooms are disgusting, constantly wet and dirty with paper, there's more holes in the wall than you can count and the walls just have so many marks in them, looks like they left a toddler roam free with crayons for the past decade. The kitchen is overcrowded, poorly ventilated and flies fly over the counter. The ventilation in the rooms is non-existant and don't expect to have A/C or anything like that, you'll only get a dirty fan that probably saw the birth of Einstein from its own eyes.
It honestly looks like no work whatsoever was done for the last 10 years and it's just barely hanging by a thread. Everything looks dirty, beaten and outdated, the mattresses are used to the threads, the sofas in the hallway looks like that one sofa in the student association's room that's been there for 40+ years, and everything just stinks. Like literally you always have a variety of foul smells coming and going.
The location is well...forgettable, you're basically facing a strip club and a building with broken windows, are next to taverns and homeless chilling spots and you're surrounded by construction. I've been to way better looking places in South America and Asia, it's honestly not that hard to maintain a certain level of cleanliness and to take care of your building.
When people see a place that hasn't been loved in a while, they don't care either. And that was reflected with pee on the toilet seats, bunch of papers just thrown on the wet ground of the shower room, mountains of not reclaimed food from past guests just piling up and taking all of the fridge space.
This hostel looks like it peaked in 2013 or so with (proof is it's oudated and corny #vanlife #backpacker lifestyle imagery, taken out of a hippie hipster traveler's instagram/tumblr user) and was never taken care of after that date.
The thing that makes it insulting is it's not even THAT cheap, so you kind of expect more for the price you pay. Honestly skip it if you're not that limited in...
Read moreI had the worst customer experience in any hostel ever. Short version: the recepcionist rotates every day. It seems the hostel is understaffed. The girls were very nice and helpful. But there's this guy Max (I think he's German) who had a terrible attitude and should not be allowed to work at customer service. Long version: on the second day of my stay, I went to the reception desk to rent a towel and I notice there is a couple waiting before me with a very serious face and looked annoyed. After 3 minutes I understand why. This guy at reception is clearly training a new person but doesn't take a minute to assist any of us waiting on the other side of the desk. I make myself notice and without even looking at me he raises one finger and says "five more minutes" and he continues with the training. I find that disrespectful and inefficient when my transaction would've taken 1 min at most. Since more people wanting help came to reception I decide to go. Around 20 minutes later I return to find a few people still waiting. After 5 min this guy finally looks at me and with the minimum manners finally attends my request. At the day of check out, I asks him to keep a couple of backpacks with values on the room at the back of reception and he tells me that he won't. I tell him that I was told twice by other receptionists that this was something they can do, then why is it different with him. His answer was "because I say so". I respectfully make sure he understands my discomfort with his lack of professionalism and asks him his name to which he refused. I learned from another staff member that his name is Max. Besides this terrible experience, this place is very dirty and overcrowded. The kitchen falls short sure to the insane amount of guests. The only reason I don't give it one star is because the location is good. Just a couple of blocks away from the sky tower, restaurants and super markets. But unless your budget is really tight I strongly recommend going somewhere else. PS: the recepcionist in this picture is Max who was absent why a lot of people were waiting just minutes before I...
Read moreIf I could’ve left a 0 star review I would’ve. It deserves the worst. The WORST customer service and contact or lack off, that I have EVER experienced. I had to leave after checking in after a few hours! Because I had a severe medical emergency and they refused a refund. Yet if I had cancelled that day I would’ve only paid one nights cancellation fee which I said to them and acknowledged I was fine with! I wanted a refund for my other 3 nights. It’s peak tourism + a concert in Auckland. Rebooking my room and probably for a higher rate too was not going to be difficult to do this weekend! They were rude, argumentative, snobbish. On top of that as others have said we had a filthy, unsanitary, unsafe hostel. And really it’s not that “cheap”. What we paid, we deserved better. We had no towels and had to go ask. They saw 2 of us and gave us one. At that point we gave up on bothering to have any conversation with them. With people smoking and doing drugs all hours of the day in and directly right outside the hostel it was NOT appealing. The place is filthy and has poor accessibility. Would NOT recommend or...
