We travelled from Kaitaia after finishing our holiday trip, arrived late in Auckland and went to this restaurant at 9:30pm. We were 7 people and were very hungry. We were told to scan the QR Code to view the Menu and order through it. We were told that we have to use only one phone to order between 7 of us and we have only 5 mins to order since kitchen is closing at 9:45pm. We asked if we can have the paper menu instead of using a phone as using one phone between 7 people to view the menu and order in 5 mins is impossible. The female manager was inconsiderate and refused to give paper menu. Our phones nearly ran out of battery and the manager had no intention to assist by taking orders manually instead of Using our phone. WHAT SORT OF CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THAT?. If we have senior citizens, then they just cant eat because every order has to be done via scanning a QR Code?. The Manager seemed that she was just following paper policies and had no sense to use her common sense in our situation. She doesn’t have the ability to resolve the issue.on these circumstances. We left and ate at Raviz which had far better service than this place. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ANYONE HERE. Read moreI have been there multiple times but have had mixed experiences. First time close to their opening, I had bad experience with the quality of the food served. Afterwards the food was fine but the service is unpredictable. I was there today for lunch. Waited to be seated & finally had to wave my hands & grab attention to be finally seated in a corner seat (almost hidden out of sight from everyone). No one came to take order for 10mins & then did the waving routine again to get attention. Ordered coffee with dosa but was told to order coffee later if I want it after my dosa. Dosa came after 10-15mins. No cutlery on the table & had to again do the wave routine to get someone to bring cutlery. Once I finished my dosa wanted to order coffee but no one came to me or even looked at me. Wasted another 10mins before I could order coffee but it didn't come. Had to remind twice before it finally came & wasn't the usual quality. Overall the serving staff seem to avoid eye contact rather than looking out for customers wanting something. Far cry from the original Saravana Bhavan experience back in India & the food doesn't come cheap too. Need to ramp up the service if you want to survive long term. Examples - Dosa batter is not fermented anymore (6 out of the 8 times I had dosa here the batter was not fermented) - this is the one reason we wanted to visit this place and now the purpose is defeated. The Parotta - when we asked they said it is freshly made. But it was very clear that it was a store brought frozen one when we had. I am sure of that because I get the same brand of frozen parotta at home so no excuses there. The coconut chutney is not made with fresh coconuts (it was initially, not anymore). Why should we visit this place if the things we look fondly for are not being served. I still believed them and came here multiple times even after experiencing sub par food. Last visit was the worst. they literally forgot my order and they were making milkshakes for themselves. We were waiting for about 25 minutes for a milkshake. When asked they said they are making now and were lying saying they got the order just now. when checked the bill, the order was sent 15 minutes prior.
