During the initial portion of my stay, I was pleased with my accommodations at the American Trade Hotel. The establishment is well-maintained and visually appealing. But, the positive experience didn't last too long. The hotel's location in the heart of downtown Panama City was convenient for my purposes. The hotel staff were generally courteous and helpful. However, the overall service was only satisfactory and often quite slow. Unless I personally went to the front desk to make a request, it was unlikely that my phone calls from my room would be answered or my requests fulfilled. For example, on my last day, I called eight times over the course of two hours to request towels, but they never arrived. While the staff were always polite, their actions did not match their words, and my requests were not addressed or resolved. !!!Shower Safety Concerns!!! **Incident 1: Shower Head Dislodgement** *refer to photo On one occasion, a friend sustained an injury on the head when the shower head unexpectedly disconnected from the wall while showering. Despite reporting this to the front desk by phone, we were disappointed by the lack of an apology or immediate action to address the situation. It was only after we personally visited the front desk and shower photos of the hazard that the shower head was eventually fixed. However, we were not offered a room change or any form of compensation for the inconvenience and potential danger caused. **Incident 2: Malfunctioning Shower Temperature Control** Additionally, we experienced persistent issues with the shower's temperature control. For the majority of our stay, the water coming out of the shower was excessively hot, regardless of adjustments made to the temperature knob. Although the issue was temporarily resolved after we reported it to the staff, the problem recurred after one shower. This problem was not only in our room but in the rooms of the other members we were traveling with.

The American Trade Hotel has been on my list for quite some time, and now that I’ve finally stayed here, it’s officially my new go-to hotel whenever I’m in Panama City. Located in the heart of Casco Viejo, this plantation-style property is stunning in every way. The soaring ceilings and thoughtful décor create such an elevated atmosphere that makes the entire experience feel special. Casco Viejo itself continues to grow and advance every year, with so many incredible restaurants, bars, and cultural spots within easy walking distance. It makes staying here feel like you’re right in the center of it all. For anyone driving, valet parking is available on site, which makes things super easy—just call up when you’re ready. The staff could not have been friendlier, and breakfast downstairs was a highlight each morning. The rooms are incredibly spacious and well-designed, with luxe bath amenities that make the stay feel even more indulgent. One pro tip: if you’re a light sleeper or sensitive to sound, ask for a room on the park side. The other side of the hotel faces a church, and the bells go off up to three times an hour throughout the day. I truly can’t wait to go back—the American Trade Hotel sets the bar for what a perfect stay in Panama City should be.

The American Trade Hotel is the hotel that we compare every and any other hotel we stay at. There is no better place to stay. This hotel is what dreams are made of. The American Trade takes the gold in every category across the board for titles including interior design, amenities, hotel staff, hotel food and overall hotel culture. Repurposed from an old banking and trade building, the hotel is in an ideal central location in Casco Viejo (“old city”) and is a design lovers absolute dream. The entrance into the lobby littered with fig trees and tropical palms is gasp inducing, along with every other room thereafter. Our room was wonderful with an outdoor patio that overlooked the beautiful city for miles. (Do note, the hotel is directly next to a church whose bells will ring quite loud on the hour!) With a multitude of gorgeously decorated rooms, The Library, Rooftop Pool and ivy draped outdoor courtyard were just a few of our favorite notables. The coffee shop, Café Unido, attached was absolutely delicious and I regret not buying more coffee beans to bring back to the states. This hotel is the most romantic and magical hotel I have ever stayed at and can not wait to go back. I would highly recommend to anyone passing through Panama!!

American Trade is a beautiful, colonial-style hotel in the heart of Casco Viejo, surrounded by restaurants, (rooftop) bars, coffee-shops, and lots of history. The hotel's style is carried through from the lobby to the restaurant, to the rooms, and so on. The little bit of wear here and there adds to the charm and is nothing to be worried about. A small, but nice pool to cool down is available. The check-in/-out procedure was smooth, the staff friendly, professional, and helpful throughout. |Our room was spacious, and we loved the colonial-style details. TV, Wi-Fi, Coffee maker, safe, mini-bar, and a small refrigerator are in the room. The bed is super comfy, and the bathroom was equipped everything needed, including Aesop products (!). The rain shower felt a bit excessive in terms of the amount of water pouring down on you and different shower heads to save water might be a good investment. |The breakfast in the restaurant was pretty good, although it took a moment for it to be prepared (coffee lovers, you will enjoy the coffee served) and the short menu was exactly the same for each of the 3 mornings we were there. Bring a sweater, the lobby/restaurant area are heavily airconditioned. |Now to the caveat: our room overlooked the plaza on front of the hotel - a beautiful view to wake up to, really. However, across from the hotel on the other side of the plaza is Casa Casco with several restaurants and a roof-top bar. While in itself cool and worth a visit, the roof-top bar makes a comfortable, quiet sleep pretty much impossible: Music with pounding basses until 1:30am (Wednesday and Thursday of our stay) and until 3am on Friday. To be fair, ear plugs are in the bathroom (think of them noise-reducing, not cancelling) and the receptionist immediately offered us a different room (towards the church behind the hotel). |In summary, this is a really nice hotel in a beautiful location, which comes at the cost of some...
