I’m not one for writing negative reviews but this place warrants one, coupled with the fact that there was no one around to help or speak to on the reception. Do not stay at this hotel if you want to get any sleep or feel comfortable. I messaged the hotel before staying here after I learned that there was a rooftop bar requesting a cancellation. They told me that they would put me in a quiet room that would not be noisy, and that they only had events until 2am on the weekends, not during the week. When we arrived we were put in what could only be described as a dark, dank hole of a room with no functioning air con. So we were moved across the hall at my request. The room was quiet until around 11pm. From this time on, music thumped through the room until 2am. Reader, it was a Wednesday night. I was on the first floor and I could hear the lyrics to the songs and feel the bass pumping through the ceiling. It is totally unreasonable to play music at that volume (in a bar that was probably empty), especially after telling a guest that they don’t have events on a week night, and that there is no noise on the first floor. To make matters worse, the rooms are not as they are described online. There wasn’t enough sleeping space for all the guests - it is described as having a large double bed and a sofa bed; enough to sleep 3 adults. There was no sofa bed and the double bed was tiny. It also says breakfast is included. Not that we would have eaten here, but there was no breakfast to be seen anywhere. Yes, this hotel is a cheaper option, but at $85 a night it’s not that cheap. The only positive was that we were only there for one night. The whole place smelled damp, felt grimy and was just overall a dreadful experience. Couldn’t get out of the place quick enough the following...
Read moreWe stayed in the room called comfort duplex for three nights. Here are a few considerations:
There is a noisy lounge on the top floor that has club level music reverberating throughout the hotel since there is an open space in the middle of the building from top to bottom. (It seems like the hotel is a retrofit that closed in the courtyard.) It shares an elevator and entrance with the hotel, which meant there were loud partiers whooping in the lobby. We stayed there from Thurs - Sat, there was loud music every night. However, the last night was the loudest and longest, we were kept up until 3:30 am. I gave the service two stars because I was offered a refund for this night, which I do appreciate. I think this hotel needs to decide whether it's an oasis to relax in or a party hotel, because it can't be both. The advertising should reflect this.
I found the advertising on the suite to be somewhat misleading. It says it has window screens. However, the windows do not look into the outdoors, but rather into the lobby, and there is a lot of light that comes into the room. We nicknamed the room our "bright cave" because there is no natural light but too much lobby light (as well as emergency and AC lights that can't be turned off) for there to be a comfortable level of dark in the room. Looking at the site afterward, it must be rooms with a "city view" that have real windows. Also, don't depend on the kitchen. It advertises cookware and has a stove/sink, but there is no way to cook with the stove as there are no pots or pans, only dishes. The room was quite nicely decorated so I can see how the rooms with windows to the outside and proper curtains could be...
Read moreStayed here for a few nights. Based on online pics we booked the Muralla room. At first it seems like a nice suite - bonus it has a large kitchen and living room space. Not so bonus - it has ZERO windows to the outside. You wouldn't know that by the advertisement. It is basically a box. In all fairness it does have a balcony, it's just that it faces the inside of the hotel and you have a wonderful view of the elevator and all its workings. I was thinking what would happen to us in case of a fire? Where is the egress? Well not to worry, there is a 2 ft x 2ft window that looks over...you guessed it, the hallway abyss where a large chandelier hangs from the rooftop to the first floor. Perhaps we would hang from the chandelier?||The first night I actually had a small bout of clostrophobia. ||Just another small item to note, we have been travelling through Panama for 2.5 weeks now and this is the first time we've experienced stomach issues. So we stopped drinking the hotel tap water and we are fine now. They will tell you it's fine, but notice that the staff in the reception office drink from a large bottled water dispenser.||We paid 150 CAD a night for our room, way overpriced for what else is available everywhere in Casco Viejo. And, other rooms this price definitely offer windows...we checked :). I wont mention the noise at night from the disco because it has been mentioned many times here. I brought ear plugs for my stay here...
