The Hotel La Compañia is part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt in Casco Viejo, Panama City. We stayed about 7 days in an upgraded loft suite in the American wing. The hotel had been open about 6 months when we were there in November 2022 There are 3 distinctive wings, each with their own style; French, Spanish and American influences reflecting Panama's diverse regional history. The staff is very friendly, attentive and accommodating. Doormen stand at the ready to open lobby doors and offer umbrellas to guests. I found after only a day, staff remembered our names and preferences. Our room was lovely, well decorated and appointed with old world flair blended with modern convenience. Although I absolutely loved the room, I will mention the upstairs loft area went mainly unused by us. I found the ceiling a bit low for my liking, as would anybody over 6' tall. As for common area amenities; I enjoyed a few days sitting by the rooftop pool in the afternoon. I didn't swim, but my observation is it seems to be a lap pool. Fairly skinny, perhaps 3 lanes wide, 40 ' long, and not more than perhaps 3' 6" deep. Fine for taking a dip to beat the heat of the day. There is a hotel gym, but it is fairly spartan in provision. There is a dual cable weight tower, a rack of dumbells 5 - 50 lbs with two adjustable free weight benches and two physio balls. Additionally there are two treadmills, one elliptical and one stationary bike for cardio. Like I said, not much but better than nothing. You'll need to be a little creative, but it's doable. The hotel courtyard at the center is stunning, most particularly in the evening. There are 5 restaurant/bar areas, but I generally only had breakfast in El Santuario, which resembles an old Spanish church. The buffet breakfasts are reasonable with great selections and menu items. I also enjoyed an occasional drink with a light lunch at the American Bazaar in our wing, which was a recreation of a 1905 department store that once stood on the same grounds. The only reason I didn't eat at the hotel more often, is that there are so many other bars and restaurants within walking distance, or just a quick Uber ride away. I found Uber was the easiest way around and it was very inexpensive compared to the US. You will find $5 will get you most places you'll want to go. As charming as La Compañia is, I world encourage visitors to get out of the hotel and explore the local sites, attractions, tours and cuisine to get the full Panamanian experience. You won't be sorry, there is so...
Read moreYou know it's going to be at least a good experience when the General Manger himself, Bruno Belletti, is checking you in. How often does that happen in practice? Color me impressed. And, it just kept on getting better and better during our weeklong stay. ||||As a Hyatt Globalist, I had used an award to upgrade to a suite. La Compania did me one better and upgraded my upgrade. Hyatt does such a good job with their loyal members. La Compania took it even further. ||||I bumped into Bruno so many times at this big property. He'd walk through the breakfast restaurant in the mornings, and I ran into him at different restaurants for dinner. He always made time for my wife and me - such a class act. ||||I interacted with three different managers, Madaline, Anthony, and Angel, at three different restaurants. Their training is on point. They really care about doing a good job, which was a reoccurring theme throughout our trip. ||||We interacted most with the crew from El Santuario. Nazareth is such a welcoming hostess. She's an asset to the team. She took the time to learn our names and even gave my wife a gift when we left. In a nutshell, Nazareth is a rockstar!||||Daniel and Sonia from the waitstaff were a pleasure to interact with. They are bubbling with personality. Lorena was especially pleasant and efficient. I'd like to thank her for taking such good care of us. ||||We had an exceptional interaction with David, the bartender from Hari's. He entertained us with some rich history of the hotel and the surrounding area. I recommend chatting him up and enjoying his company. I tip my hat to you, David!||||On our last night we were taken care of by Basilio at dinner. I watched him gracefully attend to the tables and the restaurant got busier and busier. He embodies grace under pressure. ||||The grounds of the property are beautifully manicured and the hotel is situated in the heard of the old neighborhood. With a staff that is both down-to-earth and extremely well trained, I'd go back here in a heartbeat. ||||Bruno, thank you and your team for being so good and what you do. ||||In appreciation,...
Read moreThis hotel is absolutely gorgeous! The property has been beautifully restored and redesigned—it's a real treat just wandering through the different wings, checking out the unique restaurants (each with its own distinct vibe, from artsy to industrial chic), and admiring all the little decorative touches in the hallways and corners.|Huge shoutout to the staff—everyone we encountered was genuinely kind and super helpful.|We stayed in the French wing and had a lovely view of the courtyard. The room itself was beautifully styled, though on the smaller side. One thing to note: the bed that was advertised as a king turned out to be a queen, and there really wasn’t much space to move around it—you had to be careful not to bump into things. |Seating was limited too, just one comfy chair and a desk chair, with no sofa or extra spot to relax. And with only enough room for one suitcase, managing our two bags got a little frustrating.|After the first night, we thought about upgrading to a suite. But when we checked it out, it had a similar setup—still a queen bed, one comfy chair, and only space for one suitcase. The room was a bit bigger, but not $200-a-night-bigger for us, so we decided to stick with what we had.|If you're traveling light, this place could be perfect. But if you’re bringing more than one bag or like a little extra room to spread out, it might not be the most convenient stay—you'll find yourself constantly moving things around.|Now, the bathroom; Absolutely stunning. Spacious, with a large, super comfortable shower that felt just like home. That said, I would’ve gladly traded a little bathroom space for more room in the bedroom.|We did read some reviews mentioning noise, but for the most part, it was peaceful during our stay. One night there was a wedding going on, and yes, we could hear the music clearly in our room but it didn’t last too late, so it wasn’t a big deal.|All in all, if you're a solo traveler or packing light and looking to treat yourself, this is a fantastic place to stay. Even if you’re not staying overnight, the architecture alone is...
