This hotel was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. We contacted them three times prior to our arrival to confirm an early check-in, and each time we were casually told "not to worry." What a joke! After a grueling 24-hour bus journey with the Hoop Bus Peru, we arrived at 5:00 AM, exhausted and desperate for rest, only to find the hostel completely locked up. When the incredibly rude receptionist finally appeared, he curtly informed us that our room wouldn't be ready until 7:00 AM. When I politely inquired about what we were supposed to do for those two hours and if there was any possibility of an earlier check-in, his attitude went from bad to worse. After a brief conversation with the owner, we were unbelievably told that we had an "incorrect attitude" because they couldn't simply "kick out" the current guests. Of course, we understood that, but why weren't we informed of this possibility when we contacted them multiple times beforehand? The story gets even more infuriating. We were then told the room would be ready by 12:30 PM. Fine, we thought, we'll wait. But then, in a shocking display of unprofessionalism and complete disregard for their potential guests, the receptionist simply changed his mind and told us we had to find another hotel! So, there we were, stranded at 5:00 AM after a full day of travel, with absolutely no accommodation and zero assistance or suggestions from the hotel staff. They just kept repeating the same tired phrases like a broken record. Beyond the appalling service, the hotel itself was disgusting. There was an overwhelming amount of mold throughout the property, and the decor was offensively ugly. Do yourself a massive favor and steer clear of this dreadful place. This was by far the worst hotel experience of my life.

I’m writing this as I stay here currently. Luckily I’m a solo traveler and don’t require much for only two nights but I feel like I got duped. I made the reservation on booking.com which showed 9.4 stars and a very affordable rate. I arrived to what looks like a construction zone. Half the place looks decent and promising and the other half is under construction, it’s quite an eye sore. The stairs to the second level where breakfast is served doesn’t have any railings and feels a bit unsafe. My room itself is decently comfortable but there is no heat, air conditioner or fan. The bathroom has a leak where there’s been water on the floor for two days. Above me, last night, there was a lot of noise that continued for a while after midnight. Luckily I have noise canceling headphones otherwise I could have seen being awake for a while. Overall the hotel is in a good location and the person I’ve been dealing with (Matteo?) is pretty nice and helpful as a guide but I’m not so sure this place should be taking reservations, he seems like he’s scrambling around. I’d also say the pictures didn’t quite look like what they are in real life. Breakfast is meh. Eggs don’t look great and I’m basically eating bread and cheese with instant coffee. Last night the power went out for an hour, I don’t believe it was their fault but they didn’t offer me any way to light my room or any resources to help during that time. It seems like there’s only one person working here and he has to let you in AND OUT each time. I think there are more rooms under construction than are actually available to stay. Luckily the place is relatively cheap and I’m not staying long but I think they have a little ways to go to turn into what they want the place to be. Wifi is also very slow.

From the beginning, the reception was unprofessional - the staff member barely acknowledged us and was busy watching a random YouTube video about basic math. The price on Booking.com was shown only in USD, but at the hotel we couldn’t pay by card in USD. Since we didn’t have USD cash, we were forced to pay in soles at an inflated exchange rate - about 10% extra in cash, or even more if paying by card. In the room we found a mold stain above the wardrobe. When we asked for another room, reception told us we had to pay one night because we had already “entered” the room - an absurd argument, since you can’t see mold without stepping inside. After some back and forth, we were told to pack our things and leave. To get our refund, we had to wait almost an hour until 11 p.m. while the hotel argued with Booking.com on the phone to cancel our stay. Eventually, we found another hotel with a much cleaner room for a similar price. Unprofessional service, dishonest pricing, and unacceptable behavior. Avoid this hotel!

Worst Hotel Experience Ever!

I’ve never encountered such rude and unprofessional staff. After an exhausting 18-hour bus ride, I arrived at Hoteles Gutiérrez Mansion, only to be greeted with a demand for an additional 10% fee for paying by card. When I tried to discuss it, the staff member rudely ignored me, giving me the option of paying cash, paying the fee, or leaving. I was too tired to argue, so I paid. No warm welcome, just handed the keys with a dismissive “that’s your room” and “bye.”

I was certain breakfast was included, so I asked. The staff confirmed but didn’t bother explaining where the café was. The next morning, breakfast was no better. He threw some kind of egg dish onto my plate without asking. Since it had ingredients I didn’t like, I politely informed him, and he rudely threw it in the trash without a word, completely ignoring me. No effort to make it right.

To top it off, you have to ring a bell every time you need to enter or leave the hotel, and the staff’s irritation with this was always obvious. It felt extremely uncomfortable.

The final straw was when I invited a friend over for pizza. The staff member kicked her out, locked me inside, and when I called to address the situation, he lectured me like I was a child. I couldn’t tolerate his attitude any longer, so I left and booked elsewhere. When I asked for the owner’s name, he refused.

Do yourself a favor—never stay here. Check the recent Google reviews, and you’ll see the same terrible experiences repeated.

That captures the frustration and details of...
