Firstly there are a couple of things bad about this place on paper: the spotty internet, normal (but adequate) breakfast (scrambled eggs provided, two pieces of bread, freshly blended juice, butter and their homemade apple jam is to die for! Husband wished that they provided more in terms of quantity rather than variety). Our shower did not drain well; it just wasn’t constructed on a slant so the water pooled on one end of the shower.||But for some reason we found ourselves calling this place home (and loving it!) for when we were in Cusco, using it as a base for our hikes to Choquequirao-Machu Picchu and Ausangate. ||1. Location is excellent. It’s located on a quiet side street but still two blocks away from the Plaza de Armas. Central location, yet away from the noise. Getting to the hostel requires you to walk through a well-lit and safe ancient Incan alleyway, which was fun to be living amongst such history. ||2. We felt like we were staying in a home rather than a hostel (in a good way). The owner/hostess exemplified customer service: always interested in our wellbeing, adventures and was an all-round nice person. Her brother was also very friendly, helpful and lovely. I think this really made us want to keep staying at Hostal El Labrador. Sadly when we finished our Ausangate hike early we weren’t able to score a room because they were fully-booked; our fault for not communicating earlier. All staff members understood English and we never had difficulty communicating with them.||3. Room was spacious. We had room no. 4 for the two times we stayed there (2 nights and 6 nights respectively) which has a skylight window (window on the high ceiling/roof) so if you aren’t a morning person and want to sleep in, this isn’t the room for you. It was a triple room though, so it made our stay comfortable. ||4. Bed was super huge and comfortable.||5. Luggage storage was secure for when we went on our hikes (we did have a little padlock on our bags but I wouldn’t doubt the security of your belongings).||So long as you are aware of the (minor) negatives, we highly recommend staying at Hostal...
Read moreWe spent a couple of weeks at Casa Hospedaje El Labrador, and it was truly one of the most heartwarming and memorable stays we’ve ever had. What made it so special wasn’t just the comfort of the place or the convenient location—it was the people.
From the moment we arrived, Estela, the owner, made us feel like family. Her genuine warmth, constant care, and attention to every detail turned our stay into something far beyond just accommodation. She arranged everything we needed, from taxis to laundry, with a kindness that felt like home.
Fernando, the charismatic rooster, added a touch of charm and personality to the house—always announcing the day with character and making us smile. And Anita, the cleaner, kept everything impeccable with a quiet dedication and a friendly presence that made all the difference.
The location is ideal: close enough to the center to walk there in minutes, but just far enough to enjoy peaceful, quiet nights. There are also several lovely, non-touristy restaurants nearby where we had some of our best meals.
We left El Labrador with full hearts, grateful memories, and a promise to return. Thank you, Estela, Fernando, and Anita—for making our stay so special. This place is a true gem....
Read moreDespite being a relatively basic hostel, we had such a wonderful stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone staying in Cusco. The location is tremendous (historic centre, 5mins from plaza de armas) and it's a quiet We stayed on two occasions between a trip to Machu Picchu and both rooms were clean with large comfy beds and really cosy blankets to keep us warm in the cold Cusco nights. Diana was the member or staff we saw the most and she's possibly the nicest person we've met on our travels. She makes delicious breakfasts, helped us with directions, let us leave our luggage when we went treking and generally gives the place a real homely environment. The laundry service is really good as well and it came in handy following our machu picchu trip. I'd recommend you asking someone to help you with the shower as it can be a bit dodgy at times and the only slightly negative point was it gets cold ast night as like many buildings in Cusco, there's no heating. That said, it's a superb place to stay and relatively cheap so we felt it was great...
