How the hotel is ran and staff is really good, they will definitely go above and beyond for the guests to feel comfortable and assisted. - Although, after returning to Cusco from MP we stayed in an Airbnb instead for 1/3 of the nightly price of Sonesta hotel. After that I didn’t feel the price to value was good for our stay.
For two nights it was $135 USD total - the hotel isn’t nice enough for this standard pricing and I’ve stayed in many many places in Peru for the month we were there.
I found that the Airbnb we stayed in was of much higher cleanliness and modern standards that it made our time at Sonesta hotel feel more like an overnight motel with a classy staff. Their nightly price was $25 and had wayyy higher standards than this hotel.
The rooms are definitely not as nice as in person, the rooms they display must be their suites but even then, in reality I can’t imagine how much nicer they were than the room we got. Don’t be fooled. The carpets are super murky and felt dirty, the shower tubs have a bunch of paint chips and the shower design doesn’t make sense, so when you showered water poured out on the bathroom floor.
The hotel breakfast is also not included in the stays, it is $16 USD/ per person. If it was included I would have felt price to value was closer to fair but unfortunately that was not the case. For the price they charge they should include that for the guests in comparison to quality of other stays in Cusco.
All in all, I would recommend looking at Airbnb’s in Cusco before booking a hotel stay here. The Airbnb we got was impeccably clean, modern, larger room, nicer shower, and a third the cost of this hotel. I would recommend they upgrade the flooring and showers and include breakfast because personally for the price it felt like any old hotel but the staff were super classy. Price to value is...
Read moreI will definitely look to stay here for the next visit. Although it's not located directly in the main plaza, the location is pretty convenient. On a main street for easy pickup/drop up, several shops nearby, a good medical clinic on the street behind (3 mins walking), and close enough to the plaza to either walk or take a quick Uber. But above all, the room was spacious and well appointed - larger than most hotel rooms in Cusco and the service was excellent. The hospitality was top - from staff greeting you at the door to front desk to restaurant members to house keeping. Breakfast was very good with a pretty decent selection. Quality of food was good - even room service if you need to. We stayed long enough to have a solid experience of the hotel. Now, I should note that the rooms could get dry at night, given the climate. Something to keep in mind if you already have some throat problem. House keeping was able to promptly address any issues with the room (refills, extra bedding, etc.). Laundry service was good as well; they cleaned and packaged the items carefully. They have a complimentary airport shuttle that runs at the top of the hour. Recommend to schedule your shuttle use beforehand, especially for airport pickup. There is coca tea always available in the lobby. A shop next to the hotel sells bottled water/cases. There is an artisanal market across the street for souvenirs. Enough pharmacies at walking distances. WiFi was complimentary and decent - although the bandwidth could slow down in the evenings when everyone is logging in. Front desk/concierge is a good place to get information on anything related. The noise isn't bad - you can get certain noises from the...
Read moreAVOID! Confusing experience all around. We (3 adults) checked into Sonesta Cusco for a two double bed room we had reserved directly on their website. I repeatedly tried to select 3 adults during the booking but the website wouldn't budge. When we showed up at the check in counter, we were hit with a surprise $50 / night "extra person" fee. A $80/night room for 2 adults + $50 extra person fee doesn't make any sense in any part of the world - let alone in Cusco where you can book beautiful AirBnBs and boutique hotels which are far less sterile than Sonesta. I would describe Sonesta as Holiday Inn equivalent of Peru with the cost of a Hilton. Eventually we agreed on a $30 for an extra person fee (look at the bargain!). Once we agreed, we were quickly told there would no water in the hotel that day between 10pm-4am (which is hilarious for a $100+ / night Peruvian hotel). To add insult to injury, the next morning, one of our friends had to leave to catch a flight early and was asked if they were checking out for themselves or the room and they were not allowed to leave until they "checked out". I would HIGHLY recommend to avoid this hotel given the large selection of beautiful properties in the region. Unless you want your view to be of a dump site!...
