Where do I begin? This place should be the bottom of your list when looking for a hostel in Cusco. Appalling communication, bad management and constant confusion. Firstly, the lady checking us in seemed to have no idea we were coming and seemed extremely unsure about confirming our reservation despite us seeing our names on the staff board. Then we were shown to a dorm without an ensuite despite us booking ensuite. We enquired with the lady who called her boss, Javier, who confirmed that we'd booked ensuite but 'we have none available'. I asked why an ensuite was advertised as available online and Javier said 'if you don't like it, you can book elsewhere.' We were understandably annoyed but ACCEPTED the room for both nights as we were tired and Javier said he would refund the difference in price. 5 minutes later, she came back with Javier on the phone again, who was full of apologies and kindly offered to upgrade us to a private room at no extra cost. This was really nice and he said that he could only offer it for one night as it was booked the second. We agreed, assuming we'd just go back to the dorm on night 2. At 10pm that night after we got back from dinner, another lady grabbed us and told us that we only had the room for one night and had no dorm the next day. In confusion, we asked why. She said we asked to cancel the whole booking. This is completely false. She said it had been cancelled, and now they had no spare beds in the entire hostel. This meant we had to scramble to book another place late at night for the following day. At NO point did we ask, or agree, to cancel the entire booking but she claimed Javier had told her this. Don't get me wrong, the shower was warm and the bed was extremely comfy, but in 8 weeks of travelling South America, staying in some real bad places, this is the worst customer service we've experienced. Don't bother...
Read moreWe had an amazing stay at Hostel Recoleta and would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone. I emailed with Javier whilst booking the hostel, and he was very quick to reply and helpful as we organised our stay. Janette met us on arrival and was very friendly, helpful, accommodating. She made us feel very welcome immediately. The cat, Pepa, is also super friendly!
Our room (twin) was clean and spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the room was cleaned made up each day which was really nice! The shared bathroom were always clean, the hot water and pressure was great.
Breakfast was always really good and different each day, and the free tea all day was a nice touch. The hostel had outdoor covered seating areas too which were nice to use. The wifi worked really well too.
We could leave early for our tours from the hostel, and Janette and the team helped us organise taxis and transport for our excursions. They were always there and helping us when we got our early morning taxis which was really kind. We also left baggage in storage room which was very convenient before our hiking trip.
The hostel is quiet and peaceful, and the neighbourhood is very nice- the hostel near some nice restaurant like De Booca pizzeria, and is an easy walk into town.
Thank you for such an...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend were hosted at this hostel 5 times during our stay in Cusco. This is a family business, and we must say that the family's warmth is felt in every detail in this hostel.
The hostel is super clean, bathrooms and rooms are spotless, the play room is equipped with TV, lots of movies, feesball, ping pong table and bunch of desk games.
Kitchen is a bit small but equipped with every thing is needed for cooking. The breakfast is included and served every day at 7 to 10, and if you prefer you can ask for a lunch box a day before (perfect for days you go early for a trekking). The hostel also provides a laundry service that can be done in a day.
The location of the hostel is perfect because you can enjoy the local life, markets with fair prices and the local restaurants, and be 7 minutes of walk from the Plaza square, Or 2 minutes in taxi or Uber.
Most importantly, every question or request we had was taken in such serious and welcoming way, we never had this kind of experience in any hostel in Peru.
To summarize, we would recommend this hostel to everyone who is looking for a calm, quiet, and well detailed hostel, with most home welcoming experience we had so far in Peru, thanks to the amazing family...
