Serious dis-recommendation – Azangata Trek with Agent Jimmy

Want to share a less than good experience so that others know what to look out for. We did the Azangata Trek (3 days) through Jimmy, and unfortunately it was one of the least organized treks and with a problematic attitude I have experienced in South America.

Even before the trek, we had a long conversation with him to coordinate expectations, asked everything-about horses, equipment, shuttles , guides and safety. He promised that everything was neat and organized. In reality, when we got to the trek, we realized that those were just empty promises .

We paid in advance for an additional horse (180 soles), and Jimmy promised that there would be a proper saddle-especially after someone in his previous group fell off the horse because of a saddle that was not tight and safe enough . In reality, our horses also arrived without a proper saddle, and someone from our group also fell for the same reason and got a bad back injury. In addition, fewer horses and fewer staff arrived than agreed upon, and he tried to “smear” us and start the trek with that – and only after I insisted he made sure to bring the horses and the extra man we paid for, which caused a significant delay even before the trek started.

During the first day, the guides changed the route without asking us. instead of going through all “7 lagoons” as agreed upon, we took a shortcut and saw maybe 3 lagoons. We sat in the cold for about two hours and waited for the rest of the group without understanding why they weren’t continuing.

In the evening, when it got dark (and in the rain and snow), we continued back to camp – and at one point the guide simply left us halfway, leaving us to walk alone in the dark and without a flashlight. It was very dangerous.

On the second day we tried to talk to Jimmy on the phone to explain what had happened and find a solution, but instead of listening and helping – he spoke rudely, called us “liars”, and accused us of “bringing bad energy to the group”. After that conversation, he even wrote to our guide that he would not receive a salary, which made the guide want to leave and return to Cusco-while the group had already started the trek without him.

It is important to note that the guide himself was a good person and tried to help as much as he could, but Jimmy’s management was unprofessional, irresponsible and unsafe. both in terms of organization, attitude, and reliability with the travelers.

Bottom line: The views are amazing and the trek is stunning, but I highly recommend not booking treks with Jimmy. Even if you try to verify everything in advance – don’t rely only on words, demand everything in writing...

We arrived at a hostel (Gimi) that had tons of recommendations: Pros: -The price was 30 per night -The owner was really nice

but discovered many disappointing things: -What we thought was a private room turned out to be dorms. -The whole hostel smelled of cigarettes in a really bad way. -There was no lock to the room -My bed was full of clothes of someone else -I think the sheets weren't even washed -There were no lockers. (We knew that before we came). -The bathrooms had no light/an open window that couldn't be closed/no hot water. To sum up do...
