Flying Dog Hostel — Hotel in Lima Metropolitan Area

I don’t ever write reviews but I had such a terrible experience that I will share a review. The Lima hostel is located in the Centeral of Miraflores, where there’s constant loud traffic, cars honking and early morning construction work that will leave you never getting sleep! The dorm rooms are congested with only one washroom of 14 people to share on the one floor. One room has no door, and you’ll hear people from the other rooms walking in and out towards the washroom, you’ll probably not get sleep, even wit’s ear plugs! Not to mention the WiFi is SUPER slow! We got better wifi in cusco and a town of 500 people up in Caraz. Beds don’t get made all the time for you, the bed cover is super cheap material, very thin, won’t keep you warm. Their towels have holes in them. We had a staff named Carla in the Lima location, she had really bad customer service. We stayed in the hostel for 3 nights and for the 4th night, the night before our fly out day, she books someone in our beds, even when there were two other beds available. We find this out at 8:30pm. We went to speak to her about the confusion and we had mentioned to her that we would like a quiet room since we fly out in the morning, she tells us we have to pack our bags and go to the other hostel across the street and so we do. we walk over and she had sent us to the location with the bar, even though we had told her we wanted a quiet room. She tells us the bar is closed since it’s a Monday And that they won’t be playing anything tonight. When we get there, it was like a party scene, since there was a huge tour group. The staff there were confused too on why she had sent us there and so he accomadstes better and sends us to the last location, which was where we stayed after an hour of hassle. I will not recommend the Lima location beside the Starbucks ! Most terrible experience in this hostel! This hostel lacks customer service! For the price you pay, you should be getting good service from the staff! I suggest staying at Selina’s or any other hostel in...

So, the basics were fine..in fact all was very well until I tried to leave. On the 27th of July 2018, at 0700, I explained my travel plans were to fly out at 1 and discussed my travel plans with the Flying Dog Representative at the front desk. I explained I was flying out today and I respectfully requested a Taxi to called for a 9am pick-up. A Taxi was never called. Then the Rep. said he thought my flight was the following day...??I dont know why he thought that...then the Rep called a "Dude" who arrived with an unmarked "taxi". I explained I dont ride in unmarked taxis. Then the "taxi Dude" would not get out of my way so I could get out. I was locked inside the Flying Dog cage. The Flying Dog Rep ignored my requests to hit the buzzer so I could leave. The "taxi dude" blocked the exit...so I could not leave. I repeatedly asked him to move out of the way...and he ignored me. So a It was like he wanted to start a fight because i refused to ride in an unmarked taxi. I stood inside the locked Flying Dog exit gate for a few min...waiting for the Flying Dog Rep to let me out. Wow...it was like I was a prisoner asking to leave a jail cell. I have never been to jail..but this sure felt like i was being held against my will. This was deliberate and almost sparked a fight. The worst hostel experience I’ve had in my life. To begin with , from the moment we arrived they gave us a much higher price then the price online. We asked why and they said it was the only price available (which we discovered the next day that was a lie) and we ask to speak to the manager, from that moment they started behaving disgusting. The staff was extremely rude to us at all times , and harassed us with comments about our behavior. They expelled our specifically the guests that we brought while others brought their friends and yelled at us in the most unprofessional manner I’ve experienced in my 8 months trip. Regardless of the staff horrific behavior , the rooms were not cleaned at all times , the bathrooms were filthy and with now toilet paper by night time ,every day. There was never hot water. I never right before reviews , but this time I felt like I have to write something. If you are ever in Lima DO NOT go to this hostel , I recommend you pay the extra dollars and avoid this horrific experience , it’s by far the worst place I’ve been in my entire 8 months trip.
