Okay, I'll start with the positives... First, Preston and his wife were very friendly and accommodating, also with Kuya Jun Jun, the caretaker. They were able to provide everything that I requested (iron and bottle opener). Second, can't beat the price, their places were very affordable for only Php600+ a night (that's actually the main reason why I grabbed it). It was the cheapest room I found online. Just a practical decision whilst I spend time with my friends in Pampanga. Third, there were plenty of electrical wall outlets with great WiFi speed, I was able to use my laptop and do some work online. Fourth, the fridge, hot and cold shower, and air conditioner worked pretty well. Fifth, complete toiletries - shampoo, toothpaste and soaps. Sixth, the neighbours were quite friendly and helpful. I asked them for directions and how much the tricycle fare cost is in going to Main Gate and they answered me with a smile. They even gave me some tips for the trike drivers to charge me a lot cheaper... to ask them to drop me off at Mini Stop not in Main Gate so I would only pay Php50 instead of Php100. Additionally, other guests were friendly and kind. I politely asked one of them to carry my 40+ kilos bag out from my room to the porch, and he helped me without hesitation.
And for the negatives... Well, you get what you pay for. The property was in line with the daily rate. The room they provided me was okay but needs major updating. The metal hook and faucets in the toilet and kitchen were all rusty. Everything was somewhat dingy... from the floor, TV, rack and up to the kitchen utensils, tableware and glassware (didn't bother to use any of them). I ended up just buying some food outside rather than cooking in the room and use their utensils. The sponge was too filthy. Toilet paper roll looked yellow and old. The bathroom exhaust fan was falling off. The door lock in the bathroom was broken. There were pail and dipper but both have huge cracks in them. There were cockroaches, ants, bed bugs, and you could also hear some mice running around in the ceiling, especially during nighttime. The bed, pillowcases, mattress, bed sheet and blanket were quite old and need update, too. Pillows were bit comfy, though. Initially, I got hesitant to use the bath towels as they looked dirty and too old, but I had no choice. Also, they gave me a different room from what I booked online. I was supposed to stay in their place on Dahlia Street but I was headed up to the one located on Santan Street. Friendly neighbours and guests but they were noisy. There was a note posted on the door not to make any noise, especially at 10pm onwards, and to never smoke cigarette inside the room. But you could smell cigarette smoke from other guests (they smoke at the porch). What I didn't like the most was, after I checked-in and dropped my things off in my rented room, I went out to buy something and purposely left the air con on, so the room would already be cold when I get back, but to my dismay, the room was still hot and the air conditioner was turned off, so obviously, someone had entered my room. Bothered, I immediately checked all my belongings to make sure nothing was missing. I rented that room and it's never a good idea for anyone, or any of the staff or even the owner to enter the room without my knowledge. I've never authorised anyone to enter my room during my stay or while I was there. I didn't say anything but I felt offended. If they were concerned about the electricity bill, they should have told me from the very start. I would love to come back again but I will more likely pay a few more pesos to stay somewhere a little more upscale and more decent.
Overall, everyone in Angeles City Guest House was friendly but they should know their limitations when it comes to dealing with their guest/s. Anyone or even the landlord should never enter the room without informing the guest. I'm giving them a 2 star review and I think that's a...
Read moreI stayed at the Guesthouse for 3 months. Enjoyed the location with an easy walk to a good Thai restaurant, a German diner/a Vietnamese resto, a good produce stand. ||The shared kitchen made breakfast easy. I had a private bath and cooking appliances in my room. Purified water was abundant.||Best of all were the kind and sweet owners and staff, most helpful. Twice I needed medical attention, and the owner Preston, an Aussie bloke, chauffered me to the university hospital. He also chauffered me to the bank twice. Co-owner Giselle had her sister, son, and his family working there doing cleaning and laundry service too at a good price.||Also, Preston, his buddies, and renters always took time to chat and offer helpful information and advice about managing the country and visa concerns. ||It was a happy friendly place. I hated to leave, but I had family to see in the states....
Read moreIf you're on a tight budget, this place is good for you. But with its affordability comes a not so nice place to stay. During my stay here for 3 days, the kitchen was a mess and it took for them 2 days to clean the balcony area. The host was nice and very helpful to the needs of guests but there are things that they should do to maintain cleanliness of the area without the need to wait for their guests to ask. Also, the location showing on the map is NOT the guesthouse but its where the host lives. The actual guesthouse is located about...
