Nirvana Hostel Siargao — Hotel in General Luna

I had very mixed experience at Nirvana Hostel. The room itself was very disappointing, but the rest of my experience was great. The dorm room is nothing like the pictures, and while the hostel is cute on the outside, the rooms are gross. I never saw anything cleaned during our stay. The dirty cement floor of the dorm room was consistently wet and the whole room smelled bad, and the bathroom was disgusting and had a nauseating smell. The only running water water was salty and bad tasting, and made for a very cold and sticky shower. During our stay, the power kept cutting out and some amenities like the ATM weren't available. Although the exterior is very cute and pleasant, the room itself was the lowest quality hostel room I've stayed in, and quite expensive for the conditions. That being said, the staff was INCREDIBLY nice and accommodating. Abby and the others went above and beyond helping me book trips and find affordable things to do. The food in the hostel restaurant was good, and any time I had trouble with anything, the staff were quick to help. They are very knowledgeable about the area and best places to find anything you might need, and helped us a lot throughout our stay. As a young female backpacker, I felt very safe in this hostel, and I got to meet some other incredible travelers. I honestly would not book here again, because I think for the price I could find a cleaner option, but I'm very grateful for the amazing staff. There are no updated/recent reviews so heres mine. I usually never write reviews unless its very good or very bad. Nirvana Hostel and Resto in Siargao is not a good place to stay due to the conditions. There is a lot of false advertisement about the place and it isnt as nice as the photos. I chose to get a single room with a bathroom instead of one of the hostels(because it was worse) but the single room ended up being terrible too. The sink was broken upon entering and I even asked the receptionist when he was there to fix it but he didnt fix it. The water is very salty and not good for showering at all and honestly the rooms were very small and the decor and desks(not suitable for work from home)/beds are not good quality. Not only that but the wifi was not fast as promised as well as couple of cockroaches that crawled on me at night which is unacceptable. I expected this place to have a hostel vibe of meeting others as well and doing things together as I was on a solo trip, but it felt very much detached. The host/owner was very nice prior to arrival but afterwards it wasnt nice at all. This is my experience and I hope it helps. I recommend checking out Teritoryo next door if it is still open, I ended staying there because it was walking distance for a similar price and it has far better quality/amenities. We booked a room downstairs but was given an "upgrade" upstairs which is good for 4pax. It was definitely not an upgrade since there was no water running in the toilet in our room. The room is specifically room 5.

The people are also aware of the situation that water doesn't always get to the room upstairs which didn't add to our positive experience.

Now, the owner even said "Just because of water, you want a refund?". Any customer that didn't receive the expected amenities or facilities that they paid for, I think has the right to have that kind of demand from the owner.

The hostel didn't even offer to find a new place for us to stay which again added to our negative experience.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend you to stay here unless there is a change in management or an immediate and permanent resolution for the issues we shared.

I feel bad for the people working there since they can't provide any explanation as well for the water issue.
