We stayed here for one night with our furry bff, Russell. We had a great stay! The room was cozy and the bed was comfy. The bathroom has the essentials, like body wash, shampoo, and hand wash. I also like the modern and industrial design of the place. There's a 24/7 vendo machine where you can buy juices, beer, and instant noodles.
The location is great and it's near 7-11 and Tagpuan in San Juan. The only thing I don't like about it is the road going to the hostel. It's narrow and it's a busy street with many people walking.
They have a parking space inside the hostel, I think for about 3-4 cars. There's also a pay parking behind the hostel and the entrance is beside Herbs N' Spice (right side). We were about to enter the pay parking area and a man approached us and advised us to go to Shorebreak first to see if there's an available parking space and kuya was right.
There's a roofdeck lounge which looks cute when all the lights are on. They do have quiet hours (starts at 11pm) but my family said that they can hear the noise above (from the rooftop) and it was already the "quiet hours". There were people dragging chairs. There's a sign at the lobby saying that we can report the noise but we didn't bother since we were too tired. Maybe the staff can look into the roofdeck lounge during quiet hours?
They offer food and coffee but I wasn't able to try it so I can't leave a comment on that.
Most importantly, Shorebreak Hostel is pet friendly. They have specific rooms that are pet friendly but there's a corresponding pet fee.
Overall, it was a pleasant stay. It was nice meeting...
Read moreHighly recommended! I had a great stay at the Shorebreak Hostel.
First of all, they have parking space which is a great deal for those bringing their cars.
Second, their location is searchable on Waze and is easy to locate.
Aside from the magnificent modern interior and exterior design, the bathrooms were always clean! They provide free shampoo and body wash in the bathrooms. The air conditioning in our room was also superb (and can beat the noon-time heat). They also implement a strict 11 pm lights off (no noise) curfew in the hostel. I love how FLUFFY their pillows are.
The staff was very accommodating and attentive. They were willing to entertain us despite our numerous questions about where to eat in the area (Their suggestions were superb, btw!).
They also have a great workstation and lounge area. Their internet connection was so fast that there was no lag in my online meetings. Their tables are really spacious and can fit several laptops. They also provide a water dispenser in the work area where you can refill your tumbler for free.
They also have a posh roof deck which is perfect for sunset viewing.
I am so glad we finally found a new place we can stay whenever we’re in La Union. It is cozy, it is clean and it has a strategic location. It is great for relaxation. It is a nice place to stay at while you're away from home.
Oh, and did I say it’s dog-friendly? YEP. IT IS. I brought my dog with me. We both had an enjoyable time!
I am definitely coming back and staying with them again! Five solid stars for Shorebreak...
Read moreI stayed here with 13 of my colleagues, and we all shared the same negative experience. Below are the issues we encountered during our stay:
No designated parking: Despite being a hostel, there was no parking provided. They have a large space at the back, but they told us our van wouldn’t fit due to a narrow road. After checking, we realized our van could fit, and they also charged an additional 150 pesos for parking.
Ineffective air conditioning: The aircon was not cool enough to properly accommodate the entire room.
Poor lighting: The room was not adequately lit.
Toilet flush issues: The toilet flush didn’t work properly. We had to flush multiple times for it to work and even then, it struggled to clear waste.
5.Malfunctioning shower: The shower was faulty and didn’t work as it should. The water pressure was too harsh on the skin, and the water splashed everywhere, getting our clothes wet.
Unfriendly front desk staff: The front desk staff was unwelcoming, rude, and didn’t smile at all during our stay. We were also required to pay a 500-peso security deposit per person.
Additionally, food wasn’t allowed inside, even though they didn’t offer a variety of food. During checkout, they claimed there was a stain on one of the towels, which turned out to be a small lipstick stain. Considering the towel’s purpose is to dry off your body, it’s questionable why a minor lipstick stain would be an issue. Make it make sense?!
A hostel should be a place for relaxation and comfort, but our stay was filled with frustration...
